Messages for Tournament of Champions

As most of you may know each year a National Championship is held for touch football on Thanksgiving Weekend. This year the tournament will be held in Markham Ontario (just outside Toronto) wherein teams from across Canada will compete for national supremacy. What most people don't know is that all teams are welcome to participate regardless of skill level. There are multiple divisions for teams to choose to compete in running the gambit from Elite to recreational ball. All tournaments, especially Nationals, are always a great time. If you enjoy football then you must hit up a tournament!

Because going to nationals is quite a logistical undertaking, teams who may be considering it should start planning now. Everyone is in until they are required to book a flight! If this is something of interest teams can contact the PIT Crew for more information. We will also update the site as more details become available.

Thus far the PIT has three teams already confirmed for the tournament of champions, Avengers (last years National Champions), the Doggs, and The Dead Zone, and perhaps a fourth in the Assassins. Last year the Avengers, Assassins, and Woodys competed and I am sure they can attest to what a great time it is. It would be awesome to increase the representation from Manitoba. There will probably be close to 100 teams competing so again, all skill levels are welcome. If you don't have a team, perhaps contact Neil from Dead Zone as they are looking for a couple of additional players. For more information check out his post here: http://www.pitfootball.com/forums/messages/19435

To get you a bit pumped, check out the video of the Ontario teams playing, and the last 3 minutes are highlights from the National Championships - with all three Winnipeg teams represented in the video. Gordie Laverty, one of the guys who puts on the tournament of champions, must have spent weeks putting this video together, great quality and some great plays caught on film.

Not quite as polished a video as the highlights above but here is the Avengers/Regina Megalomania final from Tournament of Champions last year condensed into less than 15 minutes. No team from either Manitoba or Saskatchewan had ever won the national title so someone was making history. Thanks to Gordie Laverty over at Touch Football Ontario for the footage.

I have had one team contact me regarding more information on TOC. If you are interested in playing as an individual or bringing your team out on Thanksgiving weekend to compete let us know and we will help you represent Manitoba at the national championships.

Camera could have used a tripod, though. There were moments when I got a little dizzy.

Nice to see the game, though. High calibre football is always fun to watch.

Hey Jon and Scott,

just to toot the nationals horn one more time........... since the tournament is coming up in just two weeks now, i am wondering if you happen to have any extra available time at east side eagles field, but where nobody is playing come championship weekend. I need to get our group together for a practice, and the days are getting shorter to do weekday practices....... and of course a bunch of us will be there at eastside anyways (i hope). anywhoooo i thought i would just inquire if you did have any openings in the jam packed playoff schedule at all?

If not we will just find another suitable location whenever i can get the most our guys together.

thanks!!!

Congratulations to the Doggs who scored a #11 ranking at the National Tournament this weekend in Markham Ontario. The PIT can lay claim to having two of the top 11 teams in Canada. They have a tough route seeing as they are in a division with perennial national challengers the #3 ranked Hamilton Piranhas and the #5 ranked Kitchener Gaels. Here is a link to the rankings and tournament grids: http://tfont.com/2012/Nationals/2012_NATIONALS_MENS_DRAW.pdf

Avengers enter ranked #1 in Canada as they attempt to defend their national championship won last year in Calgary. The Deadzone will also be playing out at Nationals and hope to take home a championship in their tier. The PIT Crew will be updated scores from Nationals via Twitter for the duration of the weekend for each of our Winnipeg contestants. Teams should really start talking about going out next year to compete, the national tournament is something that everyone should try once!

CAN'T WAIT!!!!

I think i speak for everyone who is going on our Deadzone team when i say we are completely stoked to go out and tear S#it up!!! We had a good practice yesterday before going to watch Tony Romo being well..... Tony Romo, anyways.......

I know a number of guys on Deadzone are looking to go next year as well for nationals and we are truly excited for the weekend of football (and drinking) that is coming up ahead.

Good luck to all Winnipeg teams in the tourny, i am sure we will all represent Winnipeg very well.

Good luck to all teams at TOC this weekend in Markham Ontario. The Avengers pool include the Ottawa Seminals (who the Avengers faced when they won the A final 4 years ago, the Montreal Hitmen whom the Avengers have a 1-1 career record against, and the Ottawa Capitals led by 8-time National Champion QB Rod Moors. The Avengers played the Capitals in the quarterfinals of last years national championship and were down 15 points with 8 minutes to go, the Avengers scored got the two point convert then kicked off to the Capitals with about 6 minutes left, the rest is touch football history:

Just like chip and a chair, give a QB the ball and some time and you never know what might happen.
