Messages for Verbal Integrity

The concept of verbal integrity...is to insist upon the relevance of moral responsibility for a comprehensive understanding of every utterance. Quite simply, every utterance of a human being in socio-cultural interaction with others through the medium of language must be a responsible interaction. How does this relate to the PIT? In essence racist, sexist, violent and homophobic language will not be tolerated and the PIT would like to set the standard for respectful language in recreational sports. While sport can cause tempers to flare there remains no need for disrespectful language to be used. Last night the PIT suspended its second player this season for the use of homophobic language, the first instance a player directed the language at another player, the second at a referee. We would like to remind all players that such language will not be tolerated and will result in suspension. We know that 95% of the league can disregard this message as the majority of our membership would not resort to such banal tactics, however this is a warning to the 5% who do not possess the filter that should prevent such idiotic and vapid language from being uttered.

You continue to impress in the administration of this league Jon. Nice work.

It's sad that a thread like this even has to be made for such a reason. Cudos for doing what needs to be done.

I approve of the proper use of "banal," but then again, you are one of them fancy book-learnin' professors, so... now I'm less impressed. :P

More to the point, it's good to see a league that holds people accountable for their words. I wholeheartedly approved of the penalties for swearing on field, verbal abuse of refs, and approve of this as well.

Team Captains, it's also up to us to make sure that we hold our players to a high standard as well. Just because the ref didn't hear it doesn't make it okay. If our teammates know we won't accept certain behaviours, they're less likely to do them around others.
