Anyone see the article on ACL injuries in Fridays free press? Section A21, July 4. We always seem to have a ton of those injuries.
Second article in the Saturday paper July 5 in the section called 49.8, the concussion conundrum ?

Two players crashed together and were taken to hospital on this very same day. Maybe a good read for those responsible for teams and games, team reps, league admin and refs, should make a note in the very least, players that sustain head injuries should be checked out by trained medical people. One of the guys involved in the collision wanted to continue playing, despite not knowing, where he was, was speaking incoherently, and could nt walk off the field without assistance.

The other, seemed less injured, walked off the field under his own power, but upon sitting for a few minutes also exhibited classic concussion symptoms.

So just a note, if someone gets the old noggin bumped, be wary, and if anything error on the side of caution! Good luck geting back to normal guys! For the rest of us, a little education on the subject should be in order. Check out both the articles in this past weekends Free Press.

Too many people laying lifeless on the fields after minor collisions.....especially in youth football, lets not encourage more pussy behavior!
Get hit, man up, get up, walk it off or walk off the field on your own accord. We are playing football not soccer and collisions are part of football.
In minor football it takes 4hrs to watch a game now a days because every kid that get hit needs a ambulance to take them off the field. Just sayin.
This is just my opinion....no disrespect intended to anyone.

I can assure you the incident in the game described in the original post was serious and not something that should have been walked off. Both people were taken to the hospital and required attention. I believe one of them (who we thought was the least injured) was kept until next day at the hospital due to the severity of the concussion he received.

It really shouldn't come down to a situation of someone being considered a pussy when we are talking about rec football. In the end we all want to go to work the next day and most people want to go home to their families at the end of it all.

i'm not saying there aren't situations where people embellish injuries some..... but i don't see that being a significant issue in our league, and if people are hurt then i don't blame them for erring on the side of caution.

I agree with Neil. If you are hurt or injured, getting up doesn't prove how tough you are, if anything you could be making the situation worse. If you get dinged in the head, concussion symptoms don't always show up right away, might not show up until the next day.

Im disgusted by this comment on toughen up even for minor football. Especially with head injuries. If you have a son that plays minor football you should be ashamed of your self if that is your opinion and if your a coach you shouldnt be coaching any level of football. My brother played football at the age of 14 which was 4 years ago. He took a big hit in practice and had a concussion. He didnt report it to anyone cus his next game was a playoff game and he didnt want his team mates to call him weak. In that game he got hit hard and got knocked out. For the next several months he couldnt remember anything or speak proper. And still to this day he has problems speaking sentences.

Now talking on a coaching aspect and ive coached for 5 years and if theirs such a high serious injury rate in minor football then I think football Manitoba should start teaching these "parent" coachs better on the technical aspect of tackling and not treating it like a joke like when I used to play for some programs.

And my last point which I agree with neil. we're all adults and we all have lives out of rec "touch" football. We all choose to play the game how we see it. And I dont think any player in this league needs to be told to toughen up.

Well said Max, I was going to say how disgusted I was too about that comment, but I figured someone else was going to do it eventually.

Mr Reliability.....Toughen up bud........I'm sorry my insensitive words disgusted and appalled you.
Perhaps I should take sensitivity training (and some computer training as I just noticed I made two posts saying the same thing)

Take care

What is the point of coming on here and being an asshole with stupid sarcastic comments like that? Max was trying to make point about injuries and things he experienced. And it was all relevant. If you're going to post things just to be a dick, why even bother ? Maybe if you concentrated a little more on playing football, and not complaining about people getting injured, your team might have a few more wins.

Obvious troll is obvious.

It's not even trolling.. He's just being an asshole. Like I said before, if he wasn't so concerned about how "tough" players are, and just went out and played, maybe his team would be sitting at the bottom of his division.

Lol my feelings arent hurt im just disgusted by your stupidity and ignorance towards people and serious injuries. Especially when it comes to the youth.

Let's be clear... Moose is in the minority these days. Mr. Reliability's way of thinking is definitely the norm now, and it should be. His personal account of things should highlight why that should be so. I'm sure there are hundreds of stories from PIT members that show how a knock to the head can affect you outside of this game we all enjoy so much. The message should be to never take a hit to the head lightly. Period. Watch yourself for symptoms like nausea, memory loss, dizziness, mood swings... stuff like that. And if you are a team mate, don't let that player back on the field if they are showing any different behaviour... it's simply not worth it.
