Messages for 2010 All-Star Game

As our first major announcement, The PIT is proud to make known the creation of the inaugural PIT Football All-Star Game!

That's right, we would like to acknowledge the players who helped the PIT become the best touch football league in Manitoba. Now, who should be chosen as the first all-stars of the PIT? To us, it was a no-brainer. The PIT All-Star teams will be comprised of each of the 48 outdoor team captains. Without the team captains, who chase around their teammates for registration money, ensure players get to the field, work around the schedules of others, deal with the day-to-day drama, and generally go gray with the joys of organizing recreational touch football, the PIT would not exist. Team captains might not lead their respective divisions in points, TD passes, interceptions, or sacks, but they are the true all-stars, and should be acknowledged as such.

Now where should such an event honoring our team captains take place? The inaugural PIT All-Star Game will be held Friday, October the 1st at Nomads field under the lights! Game time will be approximately 10:00pm. All team captains have been notified regarding their participation in the game and we hope all can attend the night to be held in their honor.

Congratulations from the PIT Crew!

Tony, as of now it would only be the true All-Stars of the PIT, the team captains. You could buy your team captain(Aaron) a beer in recognition of the fact you would not have 41 sacks if he did not do all the ground work for your team. What do you think?

Scott and Jon are bang on with this one. If you talk to anyone that runs a team you will know that it is hard work and a thankless job. Congrats to all those team captains out there for making it possible for everyone to be out there playing football.

Remember all, this the first of our major announcements for the PIT. One more cool one to go!!

Jon informs me that during a conversation with one of the team captains the drought between All-Star games for him is 28 years. He participated in one during his first year playing touch, and now is on to his second in the PIT league. We won't let you go that long again! Seriously, how cool is that?

Only in the PIT

A reminder that the inaugural PIT all-star game goes this Friday, October 1st 10:00pm at Nomads Field, under the lights. Team captains are encouraged to participate, but can send a team representative if they are unable to attend. Most teams have responded that they will be sending a player, so if you haven't already responded to the call, please do so as soon as possible! Include what position you would prefer to play during the game.

Team representative should bring both a black and a white jersey for when we split the teams up for the game.

Reminder that the first PIT All star game goes tonight at 10:00pm at Nomads Field under the lights. Players should bring both a black and a white jersey. Teams will be listed at the field near the players benches. Last chance for team captains to come out of the woodwork and RSVP.

Also, remember NOT to park in the loop in front of the fields. Your car will be towed, or worse:

Instead, park in the lot on Dufferin avenue (take either Jarvis or Selkirk to Sinclair Avenue. Sinclair avenue to Dufferin, then take Dufferin west towards Nomad field).

For the players, by the players

Thanks to all players who participated in the first ever PIT all-star game, which was held under the lights at Nomads field yesterday. Lots of beers drank and good times had. Team White, led by Derek Mills (QB of the Division 5 Warpigs) four touchdown passes and all-star game MVP Donovan Martin's (Div 4 Bandits) two touchdown receptions and two interceptions bested team black by a close 27-20 score. Team Black was lead by Division 5 QB Neil McKernans two touchdown pass, one sack game, as well as TD receptions from Neil Smalley (Div 7 Slobberknockers), Derek Yuel (Div 5 Brewers), and Chris Krupa (Div 1 Akron Professionals).

Team White were all presented PIT Champion t-shirts and a couple of cold beers to celebrate their championship glory.

Hopefully we can do this all again on an even grander scale next year!
