Tony Romas and Brad Kelm are back on board sponsoring the Warrior of the Week for the duration of the summer season. The winner of the warrior of the week will receive a $15 gift certificate to any Tony Romas location in the city.

The inaugural warrior of the week goes to Daniel Fingler of the Gators who led his team to a 31-9 victory over Onslaught. Daniel had 4 TD passes in the victory which improved the Gators to 2-0 and gave them a share of 1st place in the 6th division. Its early but here are a few highlights of Daniel in action for the Gators:

Congrats from the PIT Crew, and thanks to Tony Romas and Brad Kelm for the continued sponsorship!

Bengal takes a bite out of the Warrior of the Week.

Brett Stewart of the Bondiddy Bengals has won the Warrior of the week for the first week in June. Brett had two games with Bondiddy, tallying 3 TDs, a sack, and an INT for the trifecta of stats. Bondiddy has jumped out to a quick 4-0 start in part because of Brett's stellar play. Brett will receive a $15 gift certificate from Tony Romas for his efforts.

The question teams will face for the rest of the season is how do you stop #1/#85?

Congrats from the PIT Crew

The Warrior of the week wins in a slobberknocker.

The Slobberknockers Neil Smalley is reigning the Warrior of the Week. Neil had an interception and a touchdown pass in the Slobberknockers nail-biting loss to Rodney Farva. While the Slobberknockers have yet to taste victory there is a lot of individual talent on this young team, and once they get accustomed to the touch game they will be a force to be reckoned with in Division 7. Honorable mention to Matt Zelich for his clutch catches and Reese Meixner who leads the division in sacks.

With a name like the Slobberknockers you know "When its game time...its pain time!"

Barracuda ambushes warrior of the week.

Kevin Boernsen of the Barracudas becomes the newest warrior of the week by virtue of his multi-touchdown game that led to the Barracudas first victory of the season. Kevin had two TDs and a sack in a tightly contested game versus the Anvils. As a result of his efforts Kevin has been rewarded with a gift certificate to Tony Romas and the best rendition of Barracuda I have ever heard courtesy of AIC and some babe

Warrior of the week makes out like a Bandit.

Jason Gibbons of the Bandits/Manwhorze is PIT football's Warrior of the week. Jason QB'd the Bandits to an overtime victory over the previously undefeated Bondiddy Bengals 28-27. In that game Jason threw for 3 TD passes, ran for another, and hit Donovan Martin for the OT winner. Jason followed up that performance by also QBing the Bandits to victory over the Thundercats and the Manwhorze over the Spartans. In the latter game Jason had 8 points, 2 interceptions and another 3 TD passes. Congrats to Jason from the PIT Crew and Tony Romas. Perhaps with those performances he will be part of the Top 10 "skills in football".

No seconds for this Warrior of the Week.

Mike Ayotte of Sloppy Secondary is the current warrior of the week, contributing 4 sacks, a safety, and 10 points in a scorcher outside on Saturday. Mike's rushing kept the Gators at bay, and his scoring touch led Sloppy Secondary to their first victory of the season 25-12. Mike also added to his third-place divisional sack total earlier in the week, racking up two more versus the always elusive Neal Einarson of Necessary Roughness. Mike can now cool off with a couple of beers courtesy of Tony Romas and the PIT football league.

Honorable mentions also go out to Graham Goodman who had 12 points in the victory, and Brandon Johnson whose combination of running and throwing kept the Gators defense off balance. Football: the beautiful game:

Curtis Hoogmoed of System of a Touchdown (great name for a team) is the reigning Warrior of the Week. Curtis had 13 points and two interceptions in leading System of a Touchdown to victory over the Gators 39-21. With those 13 points Curtis pulled into the division 6 lead in points, and his two picks put him in 7th place in the division. The question becomes whether Curtis is as an elusive a runner as this guy:

With honorable mention going out to the strong armed Chris Mailey, after a slow start to the season System of a Touchdown is starting to hit their stride. Congrats to Curtis for his warrior of the week honours. We will provide you with your gift certificate from Tony Romas at an upcoming game. Have a beer on us!

In between obtaining and upgrading the two new fields at Assiniboine Park and the one at Viscount Alexander School it appears we missed a week for the Tony Romas Warrior of the week (WOW) so we have two of them to give away.

For this past shortened week Ninja Militia got back on the winning track, defeating Wildside by a narrow 21-20 margin. Dave "Gus" Guspodarchuk threw three 3 TDs, including the game tying TD to Gordon Fritzsche, and the convert winner to Brent Phillips. The defending division 4 champs have been beset by injuries this year, but could surprise come playoffs, not unlike their epic championship run last year. We are lucky enough to have some footage of the last minute drive Gus Elway directed to defeat Wildside:
http://

For the week previous, the WOW award goest to Todd Hersak of the Thundercats. Todd had 4 TD passes in a one-point 29-28 loss to the Bondiddy Bengals. The Thundercats have a lot of talent, and just like the Ninja Militia could surprise come playoffs when the get their full contingent of players out. During that same week, Todd also chipped in a couple of TD passes for the Anvils in another close decision loss to the Warpigs. At this rate, Todd could end up like this guy:

Congrats to Gus and Todd, you will both receive a gift certificate to Tony Romas

Our latest winner of the Tony Romas Warrior of the Week comes courtesy of the 4 TD pass effort put up by Shane Munson during a last play victory over No D last week. The team with both the oddest and the longest name in touch football, Freddy Mercury's Wonderful Reincarnation of the Ballet of Touch Football has taken the Division 2 by storm, in no small part to Shane's 6 interceptions on the season (good for 4th place) and 54 touchdown passes (good for 1st place). Shane's MVP season is the reason why FMWROTBOTF is currently the team to beat in Division 2. And if we are going to honor Shane, we should also pay tribute to his team's inspiration!

Congrats from the PIT and Tony Romas!

The Tony Romas Warrior of the Week award for the first time will be split by 4 different players. Derek Yuel, Jarrod Miller, Shawn Ward, and Nolan Colby of the Brewers all get a piece of the award for their play in their 28-16 victory over the Decepticons on Sunday. Shawn had a TD, 2 sacks and an INT, while the other three combined to ride his coattails for 0 points, 0 ints, 0 sacks, and 0 TD passes. So why did all 4 win the WOW award?

When our refs showed up for the 9:00am game they noticed two tents on the field. Finding this odd, Brad Kelm woke up the inhabitants by explaining that they were on a football field and had to vacate the premises because a game was about to start. Out of the tents popped a still inebriated Derek, Jarrod, and Shawn who put on their cleats and went out to play. While we don't condone trespassing, the PIT does condone that type of dedication to football!

Of course some of this must have been going on prior to making the decision to camp out on a football field over night.

Marty Bender earns the latest Tony Romas Warrior of the Week award by virture of his 5 touchdown pass, and a 2-point convert scramble game, as part of the Micronauts 41-39 victory over the Thundercats last week. After a slow start to the season, the Micronauts appear to be peaking at the right time of year, winning three of their last four contests. In large part, the turn around has started with the QB as Marty has thrown for 14 TD passes during the streak. Despite his new found fame, Mr. Bender took some time out of his schedule for an imporant public service announcement:

Chris Godfrey of Necessary Roughness is last weeks Warrior of the Week. With the shortened week and all the rain we only had two games played...both in a monsoon. Chris made the most of his rain day throwing the games only touchdown, while scoring two singles, and getting a pick. Chris has been filling in for the injured Neil Einarson. If you have seen him play he probably has the most unconventional throwing motion in football. To help with that I hired Peyton Manning to conduct a video tutor session designed for Chris.

If anything Chris, it gives you an opportunity to throw elbows at Derrick "The Cupcake Corner" Godfrey.

Michael Warkentin of the Decepticons is our latest Warrior of the Week. Mike had a trifecta of stats in the Decepticons victory over the Anvils on the weekend, scoring a TD, throwing for a touchdown, and intercepting a pass. Mike's veteran savvy coupled with the mid-season addition of Chris Helgason make the Decepticons a team to watch out for in a division loaded with talent...not unlike the original Transformers movie (before Michael Bay screwed it up).

Congrats to Michael Warkentin, from Tony Romas and the PIT.

Derek Mills of the Warpigs was last weeks warrior of the week throwing three touchdowns to three different receivers along the way (George Mills, Matt Lamoureux, and Aaron Krause). The Warpigs first season was a successful one in the tight division 5 race. Derek acclimatized quickly to the parity in the PIT, throwing for 42 TD passes this year, good for third in the division. A big playoff game awaits against the Brewers this Saturday.

Warpigs is obviously a rock classic, so I had to pay homage to one of the best metal songs of all time.

Dave Robson of HFC is the warrior of the week for the first week of the playoffs. Dave led HFC to a quarter-final victory over the Micronauts, throwing for two touchdowns, scoring 8 points, and bringing down two interceptions. Dave followed that up with some clutch catches and a touchdown in the Akron Professionals, in their semi-final victory over the Dayton Triangles. If anyone has watched Dave play, there is some debate as to whose moves are better, Dave, or this guy:
