Messages for Today Would Have Been the Start of Summer Season

Today would have been the kickoff to the 2020 summer season. I am sure we are all disappointed we cannot yet hit the field and play the game we love to play, however the league will not start the season if there is a health danger to our players, officials, staff, or spectators. Football Canada has cancelled all their national events, but we still hold out hope that there can be a shortened summer season.

In support of suggested recommendations from Manitoba Health, we are extending the stoppage of the PIT Outdoor season until at least July 1st. The Province of Manitoba's "Pandemic and Economic Road for Recovery" announcement on April 29 referenced a return of "non-contact children's sports" as early as June 1. This definition unfortunately does not include the sport of touch or flag football. While we often refer to touch or flag football as "non-contact", contact is defined as any sport or activity involving ANY physical contact. We will continue to re-evaluate our position on starting the league as more information regarding social distancing requirements become available.

While the league is on temporary hiatus, we will be working on updating our website with some new features, so be sure to keep posted. We recently inducted the 2019 Touch Football Hall of Fame class. If you know of a player, team, official, or contributor that deserves a Hall of Fame induction, we are now accepting nominations for the 2020 class. Nominations will close Friday July 31st and can be emailed to registration@pitfootball.com. Every person who makes a nomination for the Hall of Fame will be put in a draw for some great prizes courtesy of our sponsors Four Crowns Restaurant and Bar and Original 16 Beer. We thank our membership for their understanding and hope that everyone is safe during this unprecedented time. We look forward to gearing up for a season of football, whether that is this summer or during the indoor season.
