Messages for Rain Out Policy

In the event of a rain out the following protocols are in place:

Games canceled by the league administration:

• If rain persists to the point where games can be canceled prior to the start time league admistration will make that call.

• Games will be cancelled a minimum of one hour prior to game time. If games are cancelled prior to one hour before game time the games will be rescheduled.

• Notification for cancellations will be provided via email, the website and our twitter feed. Please do not call asking about cancellations, you will be notified! If you do not receive a notification assume the games are on!

• Note: If the league has not cancelled the game one hour prior, games may still be cancelled but will be at the head referee’s discretion at the field.

Games canceled by the head referee:

• If rain persists and makes the games unplayable or rain begins just prior to the game, the head referee may still cancel games under the following circumstances:
o There is standing water on the field
o There is lightning in the area
o The playing conditions are unsafe
o The field is being damaged

• In all other cases games can be played in the rain!

• Unless there is standing water on the field if the rain becomes too persistent or there is lightning, referees SHOULD NOT cancel games. Storms can blow over in short order. Referees may take up to a 20 minute timeout to try to “wait out” the rain. If the rain has not let up in 20 minutes games can be cancelled.

• Games that make it to halftime before being cancelled will be considered a legal game, all other games will be rescheduled.

I think it was a good job not cancelling any games today. With so much rain throughout the day I thought the fields would be soaked and torn up by our 5:45 game but the Maple Grove field was great (although the shoe soup by the end of the game wasn't ideal).

Maple Grove fields are all crowned and can handle an excess of water. Once of the reasons it is the best outdoor facility to play at!

Field #3 will get destroyed by rugby. It's hard like a rock. The others seem to be good.
