Messages for Winter 2017 Playoff Tiebreakers and Seedings

The standings page has been completely updated. A five-way tie for first place, multiple four and three-way ties, overtimes, one-point victories….plenty of drama has summed what might be the best Winter season of ball this province has ever seen! And there are still a couple of regular season games all of which hold huge playoff implications include two divisional crowns up for grabs. Perhaps the best parity in league history. I have been working on the tiebreakers all day and have finally just solved each of the divisional riddles thrown at me. A link to the full tiebreaker rules can be found here: http://pitfootball.com/menu/indoor-rules
Coed 1:
Super Dillos (1)
Two minute Drill (2) vs Bloodbath and Beyond (3)
The coed division was split for playoffs with all teams above .500 playing for the Competitive Title and all teams below .500 playing for the recreational title, ensuring all coed teams have a legitimate shot at a championship trophy! On the competitive side the Super Dillos finish first due to their regular season victory over Two-minute Drill.
Coed 2:
Down to Football (1) vs Coed Free Agents (4)
There’s No Crying in Baseball (2) vs East High Wildcats (3)
On the recreational side Down to Football finishes first due to their regular season victory over There’s No Crying and There’s No Crying receives the second seed by defeating East High Wildcats in the regular season. The East High Wildcats finish third as their last game did not count in the standings due to them playing an extra regular season game.
High School Flag Division 1:
Trojans White (1) Trojans Black (2) bye
Sisler Red (3) vs Sisler Black (6)
Trojans Green (4) vs St. Johns Tigers (5)
Big intra-school rivalry which will match up the two Sisler teams in the semi-finals!
High School Flag Division 2:
McCheyne’s School of Football (1) vs Finish First Football (4)
Grant Park Pirates (2) vs PIT Football Academy (3)
Division 1:
Guild of Calamitous Intent/Knights (1)
Bison Gang (3)
Guild and Knights still have one regular season game left with the winner taking home the Division 1 crown! Parity reigns.
Division 2:
Mapetown (1)
Great White Buffaloes (2) vs Beerhawks (3)
This division had an incredible last weekend with the Buffaloes knocking off the Beerhawks in an epic game and Mapetown upsetting the Division 1 Knights in overtime to take home first and the bye!
Division 3:
Madcattz (1) vs Strange Brew (4)
Meat’s Pizzeria (2) vs Brewers (3)
A three-way tie for 2nd spot was broken by examining the head-to-head matches between the three tied teams. All three teams were 1-1 in those games so head-to-head plus/minus was used to break the first tie. Meat’s Pizzeria gets second spot due to their +18 plus/minus (Brewers 0, Strange Brew -18). Once the first tie has been decided the tiebreaking system reverts back to the original system of head-to-head which gives the Brewers the third seed by virtue of their head-to-head victory over Strange Brew during the regular season. Division three continues to be an amazing division of equally matched still. #D1 Bound doesn’t make playoffs even though they won the most epic overtime game in PIT history (all chronicled on our Twitter feed @PITFootball) over the previously undefeated Madcatzz.
Division 4:
Kings (1) vs Patialia Island (4)
Dammit Donald (2) vs Yo Belicheck Yoself (3)
There was a three-way tie for third place which meant one of these great teams would be on the outside looking in for playoffs. Each team had identical 2-3 records during the regular season and 1-1 in head-to-head so plus/minus in those head-to-head games was used to decide the first tiebreaker. Yo Belicheck Yoself takes third place with a +/- of +30 (Barracudas +3, Patialia Island -33). Despite having the worst plus/minus Patialia Island finishes fourth as the tiebreaker reverts to the head-to-head during the season in which Barracudas lost a heartbreaker to Patialia by 1 point on the final day of the regular season (there is a trend of 1 point losses that are separating playoffs from none playoffs demonstrating the incredible parity this Winter between teams).
Division 5:
Knighthawks (1) vs Miami Sharks (4)
The D (2) vs Vikings (3)
Knighthawks take the division crown by virtue of their narrow victory over The D during the regular season.
Division 6:
Flying Squirrels (1) vs Silverbacks/South Bay/No Name Just Game (4)
Make Touch Great Again (2) vs Trojans (3)
One game remaining in this division. If SouthBay wins they will get the fourth seed and a playoff date with the Squirrels, however, if the Silverbacks win that will set in motion a three-way tie for the final playoff spot between SouthBay, Silverbacks and No Name Just Game with the winner being decided by points for/against in those head to head games.
Division 7:
C’mon Man (1) vs Spanish Channel News (4)
Young Guns (2) vs Gym Class Heroes (3)
A three-way tie for 2nd spot was broken by examining the head-to-head matches between the three tied teams. Young Guns won both games versus Gym Class and Spanish Channel News and thus captured the second seed. Gym Class Heroes defeated Spanish Channel News in an epic battle during the regular season and thus received the third seed relegating Spanish Channel to fourth spot.
Division 8:
Can’t Cut List (1) vs Moose Knuckles (4)
Barley Bros (2) vs Dark Side (3)
There was a three-way tie for third place which meant one another team would be on the outside looking in for playoffs based on how they fared head-to-head during the regular season. Each team was 1-1 in head-to-head so plus/minus in those games was used to break the first tie. The Dark Side +6 gets the third seed by the narrowest of margins (Moose Knuckles 0, Average Sized Giants -6). The Moose Knuckles secure the final playoff spot by defeating the Average Sized Giants in their final regular season game! Can you say parity?
Division 9:
Ninjas In Paris (1) vs Superheroes in Training (4)
Dez Dropped It (2) vs Danger Zone (3)
Dez Dropped it takes the second seed by defeating Danger Zone during the regular season, whereas Superheroes in Training leap frog Sober Living for the final playoff spot due to their head-to-head victory.
Division 10:
Lunch Bunches (1) vs Fail Mary (4)
VaudeVillans (2) vs Bear Back (3)
In what is the craziest division 5 teams were tied for 1st place with identical 3-2 records! Presto Pizza was eliminated automatically due to having a default during the regular season (never default!). So, that left The VaudeVillians, Lunch Bunches, Fail Mary and Bear Back all making the playoffs but seeding had to be worked out. VaudeVillans and Lunch Bunches were 2-1 in head-to-head and Fail Mary and Bear Back were 1-2 so the top seed goes to Lunch Bunches who defeated the VaudeVillians during the regular season and thus the Villians get the second seed. Bear Back takes the third seed by defeating Fail Mary and thus Fail Mary falls to the fourth seed. To top it off Lunch Bunches needed to defeat Presto Pizza in overtime to get the first seed, if they had lost they would not have made the playoffs as they would have gone from 1st place to 5th place! I think I need a drink after all the tiebreakers that have been thrown at us this season. Craziness.
Division 11:
Hoff’s Heroes (1) vs Death From Above (4)
Hurricanes (2) vs Henny and Dams (3)
Hoff’s Heroes win the regular season by defeating the Hurricanes by just 1 point in the first-place game!
Division 12:
Mayhem/Red 21 (1) vs The Upper Deckers (4)
Mayhem/Red 21 (2) vs Philip Ontacos (3)
There is still one game remaining in the regular season and the winner of Mayhem/Red 21 will get first and keep their undefeated season alive!
There was a three-way tie for third place between Philip Ontacos, the Upper Deckers and the Dragins with the bottom team unfortunately missing playoffs. With each team having identical 1-1 records in head-to-head, plus/minus in those games was used as the first tiebreaker. Philip Ontacos finishes third with +/- of +6 (Dragins +5, Upper Deckers -11). With the first tiebreaker settled the tiebreaking system reverts back to head-to-head with the Upper Deckers grabbing the last playoff spot due to their head-to-head victory over the Dragins during the season.
Division 13:
The Notorious (1) vs 3rd and Schlong (4)
The Bullet Club (2) vs Requiem (3)
A division with no tiebreakers? I like these guys!
Division 14:
Outlaws (1) vs 1 in the Pocket (4)
Blue Balls (2) vs Butt’s Pirates (3)
A three-way tie existed for second place with Blue Balls getting that coveted spot by winning both of their games versus Butt’s Pirates and 1 in the Pocket. Butt’s Pirates receives the third seed by defeating 1 in the Pocket during the regular season.
Division 15:
Guardians of Troy (1) vs Return of King Sissy (4)
Unwanted All-Stars (2) vs Team Blank (3)
Team Blank moves into third place due to their regular season victory over King Sissy.
Division 16:
Snow Mexicans (1) vs Tits Out for the Boys (4)
FG Ducks (2) vs Charleswood Chargers (3)
FG Ducks are the second seed as Charleswood seeks revenge for their regular season loss that knocks them to third place. Tits Out for the Boys squeak into the playoffs by the narrowest margin as they defeated Blue Balls of Destiny by just a single point in their head-to-head matchup!
Division 17:
Bad News Kennels (1) vs Deflated Balls (4)
Boozers (2) vs Suckskatchewan (3)
Frankfort Yellow Jackets (1) vs Tonawanda Kardex (2)
Frankfort takes the Masters Division by defeating Tonawanda on the last night of the season.
All remaining teams make playoffs in this division as it is the Division 17/Masters Split.
Division 18:
Dem Boiis Hot (1) vs Sneaky Beavers (4)
Team Potato Wedges (2) vs Jimmy Harris and the Granny Boyz (3)
Dem Boiis Hot take home the regular season crown by defeating Team Potato Wedges head-to-head. The Sneaky Beavers do exactly that and sneak into the playoffs, garnering the last playoff spot by defeating the South Free Agents by just two points in the regular season!
Division 19:
Loose Cannons (1) vs Chaos (4)
Spartans (2) vs Damn Yankees (3)
There was a two-way tie for first and a two-way tie for fourth in another hotly contested division. Loose Cannons wins the divisional crown by defeating the Spartans during the regular season and Chaos gets the final playoff seed by defeating Balls Deep in your TE on the first day of the regular season, demonstrating that all games count in the march to the playoffs!
Division 20:
The Dilligafs (1) vs Suckskatewan (2)
Tittsburg Feelers (3) vs Medal and Company (4)
The Dilligafs take home first place after defeating the Tittsburg Feelers by just a single point in their head-to-head matchup.
Division 21:
Mustard Tigers (1) vs Back That Pass Up (4)
North Free Agents (2) vs Young Wild and Free (3)
Yet another three-way tie for second to finish off the divisions and not a moment too soon as I am starting to see tiebreaker scenarios everywhere in my descent into madness. Since all three teams were 1-1 in head-to-head we reverted to plus/minus in those games to declare a victor in the first tiebreaker…which went to The North Free Agents +4 (Young, Wild and Free +1, Back that Pass Up -5). Young Wild and Free gets the third seed by winning their game versus Back that Pass Up during the regular season and thus Back that Pass Up is relegated to the fourth seed.
The playoffs for next weekend will be up shortly! Good luck to all teams in their quest for championship glory.
