Messages for New League Commissioner

The PIT Football league has grown from 40 teams in 2008 to nearly 400 teams in 2016. That tenfold increase has made us the largest touch football organization in Canada and has demonstrated that our commitment to providing the best fields, officials, games and game day experience has helped grow the game in the province.
Touch football has grown bigger than we had even expected and with growth has come increased time commitment to running the league. I have had to split my time between running the day to day activities of the league and growing the game through nontraditional channels. Now that we are playing at the two best facilities in the province and offering games in prime time this time commitment has become even greater.
In an effort to pursue plans to grow the game and make your game day experience even better I have decided to step back from running the league and to focus on my involvement at the Provincial and National Level. I believe doing so will help increase the exposure of touch and flag football, increase player participation and will help develop new programs at all levels of the game. It is in this capacity that I feel that I can make the most difference in helping grow the game of football. You can rest assured that all the great things you have grown to expect from The PIT including schedule requests, player stats, prompt replies to questions and the best game day experience, will remain! In fact this change is going to make the league even better as we will be able to offer even more of the things that you enjoy about The PIT.
To that end I would like to take this opportunity to introduce Jerome Swarath as The PIT’s first League Commissioner. Effective immediately Jerome will be taking over the day-to-day operations of the league from player additions to appeals procedures to general league management. Jerome will be looking for some players within the league to help make decisions regarding league procedures and protocols as I will no longer be involved in those activities. If you are interested in participating in league administration/organization now is your chance to do so. This was not a decision made in haste we have been in negotiations for several months. Serendipitously at the first ever Touch Football Hall of Fame induction ceremonies I began discussions with Jerome regarding some of the ideas and policies he would like to see implemented in touch football. Jerome is a player with over thirty years’ experience, from organizing the longest running touch football team in Manitoba history in the Boozers to playing in every touch football organization. Jerome is also an inaugural member of the Touch Football Hall of Fame. To say he has experience is an understatement. Jerome presented a novel perspective of how the league can operate. Our discussions over the last five months have made it clear that Jerome is the best person to take on the mantle as League Commissioner.
If you do have any questions regarding league information or just want to talk football I am still available and if I can’t help I will be more than happy to direct you to the correct person. I feel this is the natural progression for me and for the league. Looking to the future the league has some very new and cool things in the works that will be unveil soon and is sure to set PIT Football apart from the other leagues thus making the game day experience for you even better.
For the players, by the players.

League President

Thanks Travers, I will still be around just working on new endeavors to improve football in Manitoba and the league. Jerome will be talking to lots of people over the coming weeks and months as he seeks input on how to make the game better. People will find out very quickly what I have learned, that Jerome is strong advocate for the game of touch football and his only agenda is to make the game better. I am confident that football with grow even more with Jerome steering the ship.
Its my job now to blow the doors off of touch football at the Provincial and National level as well as forming new partnerships for the league which will make your game day experience even that much better.
Jon
