Messages for New PIT Rules

There will be a couple of new rules put up on the site over the next few days with implementation effective immediately. We hope that the new rules will make the game play better and clear up any confusion surround rule interpretations.
The first rule change is in regard to team jerseys. Having huge league growth often results in teams consistently changing their team composition, increased player movement and larger numbers of players playing on multiple teams. An unintended consequence of these changes is less emphasis is now placed on teams having identical jerseys with teams often opting for unmatched t shirts of the same color (at best). This has led to a significant increase in teams showing up wearing the same colors. While teams should plan ahead to have a second color in case they are required to change this rarely occurs.
Old Rule:
When two teams arrive with the same colors a coin flip will decide on who retains their colors with the losing team needing to change.
New Rule:
The team that has a complete set of jerseys/most complete set of jerseys will be allowed to retain their colors and the opposing team must change. For example if a team shows up with red jerseys and their opponents have red t shirts the team with the t shirts will be required to change. If both teams show up wearing the same colors but both teams are wearing mismatched jerseys/t shirts then a coin flip will decide on who retains their colors.
This rule will favor teams which are organized enough to have matching jerseys/t shirts. Might as well shill for one of our sponsors, Harv-al makes very inexpensive high quality jerseys and you get 15% off when you mention you play in the PIT! I was always under the impression if two teams have same colour the home team gets to wear the colour, it makes most sense. Example when we played all night Wong.... We planned ahead knowing we both wear black but since we were away we put the Reapers jerseys away and brought red tshirt.... Even though only one guy on ANW has a jersey

Our second set of PIT Rules reaffirms some old coed rules and enacts a new one.
Teams that have players who are on teams in Division 1 or higher cannot have more than two such players on the field at any time. AND if there are two division 1 or higher players on a field at one time there must be three females on the field. This rule was enacted in the Spring of last year and served to really even the playing field between teams. All six teams competing won at least one game and there was a 4-way tie for first place with teams having identical 3-2 records. We hope that can of parity within the division is sustainable.
New for this year in coed is the removal of the multi-player rule. Last year (and this year - further information is forthcoming) playoffs were split into Coed A and Coed B so players were allowed to play on teams on both sides of the coed divisions. This rule has been removed for the Winter. Thus a player can only be on one team in the coed division. If a player plays for a second team during the season they cannot return to their original team.
Just like the other divisions, all players must have two games played to be eligible for playoffs.
The nine teams in coed represent the largest contingent of coed teams in Manitoba history. Hopefully this division has more room to grow and these rules with help foster that growth.

The last of the PIT rules is designed to further curb objectionable conduct penalties.
New Rule:
Any objectionable conduct penalty within ten yards of the end zone will result in an automatic five minute "time out" for the offending player. This rule is designed to escalate the penalty for objectionable conduct when there is little yardage lost by taking a penalty. It has been observed that players are more likely to take objectionable conduct penalties when loss of yardage is minimized in the red zone. This rule will be applied evenly to both the offense and the defense. The old rule would result in an automatic one play suspension with the possibility of five minutes depending on the discretion of the referee. We have taken out the discretionary part of the rule and applied the automatic five minute suspension.
The PIT has the harshest rules for objectionable conduct penalties in Canada and we will continue to crack down on those who make the game less enjoyable for the remaining 99% of players.
We hope that the addition of the three new rules will increase sportsmanship, parity, and make the game more enjoyable for everyone in the PIT. Let us know what your thoughts are on these rules and feel free to offer suggestions to improve the rules and game play of the league.
