Don't bring in outside alcohol.

Our Soccer Complex Overlords have informed us that teams have been bringing alcohol into the locker rooms (not a bright idea) and that alcohol is then thrown in the garbage cans (a dumb idea at the best of times). Since all locker rooms are assigned by team it is pretty easy to figure out who the culprits are.

Everyone is officially on notice that we have asked the facility to provide the names of teams in the locker rooms that alcohol has been found. Those teams will be immediately suspended from the league moving forward. If teams share a locker room with a team that has been drinking that team should also report those activities immediately or risk being suspended if we cannot decipher which team was breaking the rules.

The lounge will also be more diligent in monitoring outside alcohol and any players caught with outside alcohol will be immediately suspended.

Lastly, there has been some reported damages to the locker rooms and one team in the fall was fined the damage amount and placed on notice for further sanctions should any vandalism ever occur again. We reiterate that it isn't difficult for the facility to find out who the culprits are.

Your cooperation is expected and appreciated. Lets not risk the best recreational sport going in Manitoba! For the 99% of players who follow the rules and have a great time within the confines of those rules please ignore this message. The 1 percenters would be wise not to jeopardize their respective teams registration going forward.

I'll start off by saying that, because our league has directed it, if we care about the league we need to respect that and do it...
BUT... I for one would like to know what the deal is with this little lounge in this complex. What is their license restriction? Do they plan on ever changing that? It's frustrating that they offer terrible pricing for alcohol and you must buy food as well. There are no incentives to stay there other than being around a bunch of like-minded people. As a person from this industry I just don't understand their philosophy of business. They got a restricted license and jacked up their prices and then they get upset when peole bring in their own alcohol? By the way I think it's way higher than 1 percent. It's akin to a movie theatre being upset that you bring in a 50 cent chocolate bar when they have it at their counter for $3.00. Of course that's going to happen. The obvious retort someone will have is that I don't have to drink there. And they're right. And I won't (much). I just would like to know if the owners of this lounge have any plans to actually treat their main clientelle like they actually want their business?

I agree with Earndrunk on this one. It would be nice if i could go sit down and have a beer with my team after the game, i often have no desire to buy food, we have therefore on may occasions gone over to BP's down the street for a beer instead. Now obviously BP's isn't cheaper, but i am not forced to purchase food i really don't want to eat, and thus can have my one or two beers and i am not forced to purchase the deep fried cafeteria food.

Basically it seems like the lounge is missing out on a lot of revenue because of the type of licence they have. i have no doubt that the lounge would make a lot more money if people did not have to go in an purchase food. It really turns people away from the lounge and off to other venues to get there drink on.

I would much rather spend my money at the complex as well so i can watch some more football and drink with more teams, but the current license does make that more difficult.

I third the opinion of Chris. Im not a drinker ( I dabble in the cola's) but I do occasionally buy a round for my team after the game. I hate being forced into buying the food on top. I would probably buy some wings for myself but standing there trying to figure out the system so that I can get the right ratio of food to drink always leaves me feeling like Im being fleeced. Im thinking we also maybe moving to a different location in the future for our after game drink. Watching a game and hanging out with the guys is ideal but the current set up is less than attractive.

Sports Facility Licence

May be issued to the operator of an establishment that features golf, court sports, skiing, bowling, rink sports, field sports, billiards, or a simulated golf/baseball facility, or hunting/fishing lodges.
A kitchen and dining area are required.
A menu, with a minimum of five different multi-component meal choices, is required.
Service of liquor is with or without a meal.

Can't this type of license be applied for?

The only thing I can think of is that, since they only are open on Friday and Saturday (I assume), then they have temporary license restrictions (like a social) and that is why they need the food. And that's not a huge deal, but then price your alcohol accordingly. Or give us frequent flyer points or something... anything!

Scott and I have offered suggestions to help the lounge out. I think a combination of owner apathy and the law conspire against us. Our league members should remember not to take their venom out on Caroline in the lounge. She is an easy target because she is present in the lounge however she is just following the Boss's orders and doing the best she can in a short-staffed environment.

If the PIT Crew were running the lounge things would be very different. There is a definite way to build on what is there and at the same time increase the camaraderie among league participants, but an absentee/apathetic owner will definitely kibosh any momentum that could be built.
