Messages for Rushers rights

"2.5 Once the centre sets the ball on the ground for the snap, the rusher is not permitted to change sides and maintain rushing privileges with the centre; unless, the quarterback goes in motion prior to the snap of the ball."

Just wanted to clarify a rule issue we had on saturday night with a rusher and a centre where obstruction occured due to conflicting opinions on the rule.

If the rusher changes sides when the ball is set will lose his rights, even if the QB goes in motion. Stay where you are and run in a straight line towards the QB. If the centre is in your way....good. The centre gets a obstruction penalty and you send them back 10 yards. Remember to keep in mind that if a receiver is less than 5 yards from the centre, they could get the obstruction penalty.
Unless something has changed from last year.

Damian,

I think the rule is clear that the QB's motion is occurring before the snap, which gives the rusher back his rights. That's the key difference - it doesn't matter if the QB rolls out, but whether he's running before the snap.

But, the rest of what you said is correct.
