Messages for Fall 2011 Indoor Playoffs

The Fall 2011 playoffs will begin Friday December 16th and conclude on Friday December 23rd. Teams should make themselves available to play on each of the three playoff nights. The playoffs for each division are as follows:

Divisions 4 through 16: The top 4 teams will make playoffs with the 1st seed playing the 4th seed, and the 2nd seed playing the 3rd seed in the semi-finals. The winners of those two games will then play for their respective division titles.

Division 3: The top-seeded team will receive a bye to the finals. The second and third place teams will play in the semi-finals to determine the opponent for the top seed.

Divisions 1/2: The two division 2 teams will automatically face-off in the final for divisional supremacy. The winner of this game will play the Guild of Calamitous Intent for a chance to hold two divisional crowns simultaneously.

Keep posted to the website as the playoff schedule will be released later in this week. For all of those divisions which will probably come down to the last night to determine playoff seeding, a complete list of tie-breakers can be found here: http://pitfootball.com/menu/indoor-rules-2011-2012

Good luck to all teams in their race for the playoffs.

Would any teams/match-ups be willing to switch their Friday, December 16th game for a Saturday, December 17th game?
Game will be at 11:15pm that night.
We are Division 13 berth.

Four of our divisions have been set for playoffs including a wild one in teach 5 teams (yes five!) all finished the regular season tied for first place. The result? Perhaps the most convoluted tie-breaker in history. View the link to the updated playoff schedule here: http://www.pitfootball.com/seasons/816-fall-2011-indoor/games/playoffs

Division 2:
The Blazers (1) versus The Owen Nagy Incident (2)

Division 4:
Beer Belly Bastards (1) versus So Smooth (4)
The Y Nots (2) versus The Roughnecks (4)

Tiebreakers: A three-way tie existed for second in the division as each team had a 3-2 record. The Y Nots defeated both So Smooth and The Roughnecks and thus were seeded second. The third seed went to The Roughnecks who defeated So Smooth in the regular season.

Division 13:
VG Unit (1) versus A535 Heat (4)
Beast Mode (2) versus The Average Joes (3)

Division 14:
S.S. More Powerful than (1) versus the Ron Burgandy’s (4)
Throwing Picks and Texting Chicks (2) versus The Army (3)

For the first time in PIT history 5 teams tied for first place with identical 3-2 records. That meant that someone would finish first but one of those five teams would actually be eliminated from playoff contention. Those five teams included: Throwing Picks and Texting Chicks, S.S. More Powerful than…, Deep Punts, The Army, and The Ron Burgandy’s.

The first useable tie-breaker was head-to-head plus/minus so all games that were played against the sixth team in the division (D.T.F) were thrown out. The result was the team with the longest name in PIT history S.S. More Powerful than… finishes first with a +/- of +9. Once that tie breaker was decided the rules dictate that the tiebreaking system reverts back to step 1. However the first useable tiebreaker was once again head-to-head plus/minus which was recalculated using the remaining four teams. In this calculation both D.T.F and S.S. More Powerful were removed from the analysis. The result of this tie-breaker was Throwing Picks finishing 2nd. We were down to three teams and head-to-head victories became the first useable tiebreaker. When this was examined the Army got the nod as the third seed as they defeated both the Ron Burgandy’s and Deep Punts. Finally, the fourth-seed was also determined by the head-to-head match up with the Ron Burgandy’s winning their regular season matchup and getting the last spot in the playoffs. The craziest tie-breaking scenarios resulted in the aforementioned playoff matchups.

The results of the plus/minus calculations for the first two tiebreakers were as follows:
SS More Powerful +21 (D.T.F removed)
Throwing Picks +9 (D.T.F removed) then +11 (D.T.F and S.S. More Powerful removed)
Deep Punts +8 (D.T.F removed) then +4 (D.T.F and S.S. More Powerful removed)
The Army -17 (D.T.F removed) then +8 (D.T.F and S.S. More Powerful removed)
The Ron Burgandy’s -22 (D.T.F removed) then -23 (D.T.F and S.S. More Powerful removed)

The best parity in touch football today!

The last night the Fall 2011 regular season played out yesterday with many teams fighting for their playoff lives. Some great games, overtime thrillers, and nail-biters as parity ruled the night. Here is a breakdown of who's in, who's out, and the remaining playoff scenarios:

Division 3:
Swaggerville (2) versus The Jeffery (3)
Levels! (1) receive an automatic bye to the Division 3 finals and await the winners of the Swaggerville/Jeffery tilt.

Division 5:
Nomads (1) versus The Decepticons (4)
Da Killa Beez (2) versus Slobberknockers (3)

A three-way tie existed between The Decepticons, Chuckers, and The Gators for the final playoff spot. Each team was 1-1 in head-to-head, so head-to-head plus/minus was used to decide fourth place. When that tiebreaker scenario was examined The Decepticons squeak into the final playoff spot with a +/- of +12, compared to +1 for Chuckers, and -13 for The Gators.

Division 7:
Put it Up! (1) versus Pick 6 (4)
Onslaught (2) versus U Mad Bro (3)

Another three-way tie but this time for 2nd place in the division. Parity strikes as each team had a 1-1 record with some overtime games thrown in to boot! Onslaught finishes 2nd with a plus/minus of +3 followed by U Mad Bro at 0, and finally Pick 6 nabbing the last playoff spot with a +/- of -3.

Division 10:
Can’t Touch This (1) versus U Can’t Touch this (4)
Mayhem (2) versus Street Meat (3)

A battle of MC Hammer fans as Can’t Touch This will playoff against U Can’t Touch This in the parachute pants bowl. U Can’t Touch This sneaks into the playoffs due to their head-to-head victory over The Warriors. Mayhem finishes second by virtue of their regular season victory over Street Meat.

Division 11:
Rhinos (1) versus The Hurricanes (4)
The Tribe (2) versus MXC (3)

Another three-way for second place with each team having 1 win and 1 loss in the head to head battles (making my life difficult once again). When plus/minus in those games was examined The Tribe finished second in the division with a +/- of +5 followed by MXC at +1 and The Hurricanes at -6.

Division 12:
Scoregasms (1) versus Da Browns (4)
River Rats (2) versus Guns of Hoculi (3)

Two two-way ties with the Scoregasm winning the divisional pennant race by defeating the River Rats in the regular season. Da Browns edge out The MegaPowers for the final playoff spot by virtue of their regular season victory.

Division 15:
Blue Balls (1) versus Team Smashmouth (4)
Full Force (2) versus Random Heroes (3)

Last division, and wouldn’t you know it, another three-way tie for second and all teams finishing 1-1 in the head-to-head matchups. Using head-to-head plus/minus Full Force wins the tiebreaker and second place with a score of +11 followed by Random Heroes in second with +3, and the final playoff spot going to Team Smashmouth at -14.

Seriously is there any better parity than in the PIT???????

The playoff schedule has been updated and can be viewed here: http://www.pitfootball.com/seasons/816-fall-2011-indoor/games/playoffs

Good luck to all teams still in championship contention and a big thanks to all teams who participated in the largest Fall season in indoor history. We hope to see all teams back again in the Winter.

Just a reminder that early registration for Winter ball is paramount as we already have 62 teams signed up. With only 94 spots available that means that 66% of Winter registration has already been accounted for! So if you are planning on registering a team you should get your team up on the website sooner rather than later.

DaKillaBeez (Division 5) would like to switch our 11:45pm playoff time slot for a 12:45am time slot this Friday night. This would be pending approval from our opponents, the Slobberknockers. Please let me know if any of the 8 teams are interested.
Thanks, Randy
