Messages for Smokin

Ok, so I don't wanna be that guy but... and I do live more on the edge than within the lines. I cross the street where there's no crosswalk, I talk to strangers and one time I even ran with scissors.

But this smoke thing?

I understand its a new thing. This is my 32nd year of touch football and we have never, ever needed any sort of air quality testing.

And being a kid from the 70s and 80s I know smoke. We used to be able to light up a butt anywhere. Aunt Erma and Uncle Charlie with their 6 adult kids would come for Christmas and each smoke a pack in the house before supper, along with both my parents. But we weren't running around like we do during a game.

Now I ain't no athlete. So I get the fact that things are not like other large national leagues (think CFL) where each field has an attendant and the grass is oh so fluffy!

I would just like to advocate that on days like today - where looking end zone to end zone and not being able to make out which guy on your team is there cause your eyes look like youre crying - maybe we can postpone or reschedule?

We have had a year blessed with almost zero rain outs.

Just a question.

Hi John,

Good question. The league has not developed a policy for smoke. Perhaps that is something we can do. Almost every team has requested no weekend games in the summer. Since our Monday to Fridays are booked solid, we would be moving any rescheduled games to Saturdays or Sunday mornings. In discussions with teams, many have said they would default in this scenario. It is a bit of a catch-22. During the off season we plan to discuss this in more detail. Teams would need to be flexible to play weekends in the event of cancellations. Other leagues have postponed games, and if they cannot be made up, no refunds will be provided. We also do not want to go this route.

Climate change is real. It was amazing growing up in earlier times when this wasn't an issue. We would be interested in hearing from our membership. Is cancellation and moving games to summer weekends the answer? If so, we are open to it. We are also open to other solutions. Unfortunately, rescheduling games Mondays to Fridays is impossible.

Thanks for the reply, Jon. I guess back in the day we played weekend games all the time. So that was always an option

I do hope others weigh in with scenarios and solutions.

Team Colored Gas Masks?
Temporary climate controlled domes?
Cigarette filters jammed in each nostril?

I'd personally opt for weekend games or chancing the season going an extra week or two and it not snowing.

I'm all for having a air quality policy, if my team had been scheduled to play last night, I don't think I would have played. Personally, my team did not request weekends off, so rescheduling a game to a Sat or Sun is not an issue. I actually think an air quality policy is required for the league now.

There is more rain in the forecast for this afternoon/evening, is it going to be 5 pm before we hear if games are rained out today?
