For those of you who thought that AI couldn't account for 533 schedule conflicts, black out dates, special requests, and time requests across two facilities simultaneously...you were absolutely correct!
Flex scores seemed like a fantastic idea - just give preference to the team with fewer requests - unfortunately, teams with lower flex scores were getting scheduled on their "blackout" dates. The algorithm also does not avoid double headers, so if your team doesn't mind playing three games in a weekend, you will get along fine with Skynet.
At the end of the day, the Skynet schedule included 40 teams having double header weekends, and 26 blackout date violations, even before team conflicts were factored in. We aim for zero blackout date violations and almost always deliver on this. Our quest to perfect our scheduling using specialized software only proved the best scheduler already resided in the PIT. The league has made the decision to break our agreement with Skynet (thus making us first on its hit list when it becomes sentient) and return to manual scheduling. The league could not in good faith continue to advertise that we offer the best game day experience if we didn't believe we had an optimal schedule.
Consequently, we have modified weeks two and three to make the schedule fit better with the requests provided. Please ensure you check your schedule for updates. The league cannot modify these weeks any further. We will start manually designing the remaining schedule. This is the first time in 16 years we haven't had the schedule ready on time, but we pledge to get the schedule out as quickly as possible. Each night of the schedule takes about 8 hours to complete manually. We appreciate your patience as we make good on our promise to offer the best game day experience in recreational sports!

The final fall schedule has been released and can be found here: https://pit.redzoneleagues.com/seasons/1956-fall-2024-indoor/games/all/11
A huge shout out to our scheduler, who not only defeated Skynet, but was able to pick up the pieces and create a remarkable schedule considering the algorithm painted us into a corner with the first couple of weeks. There were 1000s of requests, it was impossible to have them all accounted for, but definitely were able to accommodate most!
All part of the best game day experience in rec sports.
