PIT Football has been invited by Football Manitoba to add touch and flag football participants as eligible nominees for the Manitoba Football Hall of Fame! Flag football is the fastest growing sport in North America and now, with an Olympic pathway, Football Manitoba will be accepting both flag and touch football nominations for the 2024 Hall of Fame class.
This collaboration will allow current PIT Football players, and those that have taken part in the amazing history of touch and flag football in this province, an opportunity to have both individual and collective efforts recognized by the Football Manitoba Hall of Fame.
PIT Football will move its nomination dates and Hall of Fame festivities to coincide with those of Football Manitoba. Who will be the first non-contact player, team, or builder to be enshrined in the Football Manitoba Hall of Fame with the likes of Randy Ambrosie, Chris Walby, and Israel Idonije?
The Manitoba Touch/Flag Football Hall of Fame (PIT) and the Football Manitoba Hall of Fame will have a nomination deadline of February 29th (players, teams, and builders). The Football Manitoba Hall of Fame selection committee has more stringent criteria for entry and requires a case be made that the player, team, or builder has had a dramatic positive effect on touch and flag football in the province. While not mandatory, players, teams, builders, who are currently a part of the PIT Football Hall of Fame could be prioritized as part of the case building for that nomination.
The Touch and Flag Football Hall of Fame festivities will take place in August. This year, PIT Football will have a double cohort of inductees to celebrate our first year as part of the Manitoba Touch Football Hall of Fame. Our 2023 Hall of Fame Inductees will be honoured along with our 2024 Inductees.

We have had a few questions regarding the differences in categories and qualifications for the Manitoba Touch & Flag Football Hall of Fame (run by PIT) and the Football Manitoba Hall of Fame (run obviously by Football Manitoba). Here are the major differences:
Hall of Fame Categories:
PIT Football - player (currently playing), veteran (retired player), team, team captain, builder, and official. Categories are found here: https://pit.redzoneleagues.com/menu/dhillon-auto-hall-of-fame
Football Manitoba - player (preferably retired), team, and builder. Note: There is no team captain, or official category. Why is the player preferably retired? The career of a retired player has been written, whereas a current player still has time to leave their mark on the game and that could change perspective on nominations.
Hall of Fame Entrance Requirements:
PIT Football - will include not only statistical leaders during a season, career, championships won at league, provincial, and the national level, but also longevity and sportsmanship.
Football Manitoba - longevity will NOT be considered. League championships or divisional statistical leaders are not relevant unless sustained over a significant portion of time. More emphasis will be placed on National level achievements and how people fundamentally changed the way the game is played for the better. Did you win a national championship as a player? Well that doesn't automatically qualify you. Did you win a national championship and were the MVP of the tournament? Now you are on to something. Are you the all-time leader in points for the league? Maybe that is sufficient. Has your team played together for 30 years? Have you played for 30 years? For PIT that may qualify you, for Football Manitoba, it would not!
Odds of being elected to the Hall of Fame:
PIT Football - so long as we have a qualified candidate (as decided by our Hall of Fame selection committee) for each of our six categories for the Hall of Fame, there will be six inductees each year.
Football Manitoba - at most, there will be one non-contact inductee each year (from the category of player, team, or builder). There is no guarantee that any non-contact player is elected. Football Manitoba will have significantly more difficult criteria to overcome in order to be elected into the Football Manitoba Hall of Fame (as it should).

The Football Manitoba form is lengthier to provide significant justification for entry. To help with justification, nominees for the Football Manitoba Hall of Fame should be part of the PIT Football Touch and Flag Football Hall of Fame. While this is not a requirement, it would be difficult to justify being in the Football Manitoba Hall of Fame (with more challenging requirements) without first being in the Manitoba Touch and Flag Football Hall of Fame.
