Football Manitoba is now accepting registration for the Provincial Flag Football team. Represent your Province and have the opportunity to be selected as part of the National Program! Flag Football has been officially recognized in Manitoba as a high performance program which means some great opportunities for noncontact players in the province.

The National Tournament is tentatively set for mid-August in Kelowna, British Columbia. Costs for travel and hotel will be subsidized by Football Manitoba. Players at the National Tournament will be evaluated for the National team, with players selected by Football Canada to compete in the World Championships!

Football Manitoba will be offering a tryout camp for the Provincial team on Saturday February 4th 7:45pm to 8:45pm and Saturday February 11th 7:45pm to 8:45pm at Manitoba’s premier indoor sports facility at Garden City located at 770 Leila Avenue. Cost for the tryouts will be $80 which will includes a Football Manitoba jersey for all participants. Players will expected to be there early to warm up as tryouts begin 7:45pm sharp on both days.

Last year, the first year of the provincial program, the Provincial men’s team finished with the bronze medal. New this year will be the addition of a women’s provincial team! Tryouts for the women’s team will run concurrently with the men’s team.

The provincial men’s team will have roster of 12 players, while the provincial women’s team will have a roster of 10 players (the same number as men did in their first year of participation).
8 male and 8 female players will be selected at the tryouts to play on the Provincial team. Those players will participate in the PIT Football Spring season to practice for the Flag Tournament. Cost for the Spring season will be $90. Spring season runs from the end of March to the beginning of May.

The players who are not selected at the tryout camp have a second opportunity to make the team during the PIT Football Spring session. All remaining players will be placed on a separate Spring team from which the remaining provincial roster of players (4 males and 2 females) will be selected. Selection to the provincial team will be based on the play of those players during the Spring season.

To celebrate the fact that the PIT Football league has been nationally recognized for its adoption of the official IFAF/Football Canada field regulations and as the only league in the province to adhere to the mandated standardized indoor fields, we will be offering all of our members a 50% discount on registration. To be eligible for the discount you would be required to have participated in either the 2016 Fall indoor season or the 2017 Winter indoor season (on a roster as of January 15th 2017). Cost for PIT members for the tryout will only be $40 as opposed to the regular $80. The discount will be applied to discounted Spring registration fees (you pay your $80 fee to Football Manitoba and you will be credited $40 for the Spring season).

As an added bonus, for the first time we will be offering an opportunity to play on the Provincial Men’s Touch Football team at the National Tournament held in Hamilton Ontario during the 2017 Thanksgiving weekend! Manitoba last won the National Tournament in 2011 and we will be consolidating the best talent in the province to bring the National title back to Manitoba. 16 players will be selected for the Provincial touch program to compete at Nationals. 10-12 members will be chosen at the tryout camp for the touch team which will play in the first division during the PIT Football Summer season. The remaining players will participate in the first division in the summer on a separate team with 4-6 of those players being selected to the Provincial team to compete at Nationals. Selection to the provincial team will be based on the play of those players during the Summer season. Cost for the summer team will be $200. Cost for travel and hotel for the tournament in Hamilton Ontario will be subsidized!

Some great opportunities for all football players in Manitoba and even greater opportunities for PIT members! Registration opens later today with information on how to register found here:

I have been informed by Football Manitoba that the link for tryout payments will be live later today! We hope to have a great turnout and ideally lots of female participants for women's flag team which will make their debut this year at Nationals.

It will be a little different this year as Football Manitoba will be running the entirety of the show. They will have their own selection process, I am not involved in that aspect of things so beyond that I cant provide too many details because I don't know. From what I understand they will have some coaches on hand to evaluate players.

Those that are not selected in the first round will have an opportunity to make the team based on their performance in spring seasons where coaches will have the ability to watch players in real game situations.

Do you bring the $80 to the tryouts or does it have to be paid before hand?

You would pay to Football Manitoba prior. Football Manitoba is switching over websites and the hope is that the new one will be live by Monday. I will post something when the new web link is live and you would pay Football Manitoba through the website.

A reminder that the deadline is fast approaching for the senior mens and womens flag football provincial teams. Here is the link to register: https://fc-manitoba.goalline.ca/register.php?reg_form_id=13650

Most of the teams will be picked from the tryouts with the remaining players not selected playing on teams in the PIT Spring season for a chance at redemption. Selection for the remaining spots will be made based on the play of the remaining players in the Spring.

A great turnout on Saturday as we had over 50 players participate in the first session of the Provincial Flag Football Championships. Individual and one-on-one drills kicked off the first night. This upcoming Saturday we will go back at it. If anyone is interested in watching the proceedings the tryouts will continue 7:45pm at Winnipeg's newest and best facility at Garden City.
