Booster Juice and the PIT have teamed up to create a unique award for our players which will award sportsmanship over athletic prowess with a weekly award that will go to a player that demonstrates sportsmanship above all else during their games. Referees will submit their recommendations each week for a player that demonstrates honesty, honor and gamesmanship. The winner will be able to fuel up with a free Booster Juice for their efforts.

The first recipient of the Booster Juice Sportsmanship Award goes to Mark Mercer of Hit it and Quit It. Mark is heading a brand new team in the PIT who were introduced to the game in quick fashion the first weekend. Although the team went 0-2 Mark was in great spirits, asked lots of questions of our referee's, and captained a team of great sports. The PIT is very happy to have this new team in the league and with the sportsmanship they have shown through two games the rest of the league will really enjoy playing against these guys. We know this team has talent, it will just take a few games to get a full understanding of the rules and when they do, teams will have to watch out!

Congratulations from The PIT Crew, your Booster Juice gift certificate will be attached to a future game card.

Brayden Bernstein of Ball Cuppage becomes the second Booster Juice Sportsmanship Award recipient. Beyond the amazing stats from the past weekend (2 sacks, an interception and fourteen points) Brayden showed off his sportsmanship when he laid out for what referees, fellow teammates and the opposing team thought was an amazing touchdown reception, when in fact the ball had hit the ground. Brayden after realizing the touchdown has signaled went to the referees and reversed the call. It is demonstrations of sportsmanship like that that garner the respect of players and officials throughout the league and what make recreational sports great (and get you a free Booster Juice!).

Our third Booster Juice Sportsmanship Award recipient is Brett Demerchant of Down to Football. Brett has played five seasons in the PIT, three of those seasons in the coed division. Brett is consistently demonstrates his sportsmanship each game, trying to keep everyone involved on his team and providing encouragement to all of his team's players. Down to Football had a great back and forth game versus the Flying Squirrels last weekend and regardless of the score or who had the lead he continued to play the way the game is supposed to be played and for that we commend him!

In Week #4 team with the longest name in PIT history the “South Winnipeg Tiny people who can’t play foot ball good and want to learn to do other stuff good too” finally lit of the scoreboard and almost knocked off the Coed Free Agents in large part to Mitchell Barrow’s four sacks, a convert, and a touchdown pass. The four sacks puts Mitchell into third place in the coed division. Beyond the great stats, this team has become a great addition to the largest coed touch football division. Their positive attitude and their sportsmanship have taken the coed division up yet another notch! Congrats Mitchell on being part of one of the league’s favorite teams to play against.

In Week #5 Robin Lorenzo of the East High Wildcats scored 15 points had a sack and an interception in East High's first victory of the season! After that game they got on a roll and knocked off the second seed in the Coed Rec Division in the playoffs! In that game Robin scored a touchdown and added two more interceptions to his stats. Beyond the great statistical games however Robin gets the nod for playing on a team that consistently demonstrates sportsmanship, fair play and team fun, a hallmark of what the coed division has become (and the way coed should be!)m

In their first playoff game Mike McCheyne of the Coed Free Agents threw for four touchdowns and ran in a score to lead his team to the coed recreational division final. Mike finished second in touchdown passes, fifth in scoring and third in interceptions on the season but it wasn’t his statistical prowess that wins him this award. Mike was going to miss his playoff game due to his birthday celebration but when his backup quarterback came down late in the evening with the flu he left the party to ensure he was there for his teammates. Putting his team before his celebration earns him the Booster Juice sportsmanship award!
