Messages for Changes to Suspensions and Appeals Process

Due to some unfortunate incidents during the indoor season we will be making some changes to our suspension and appeals processes moving forward. These changes were enacted toward the end of the Spring season and worked well.

Suspensions:

1. Players will no longer be allowed on the sidelines at any games during their suspension. We had a few instances of players showing up intoxicated to games that they were suspended from and caused further altercations. As a consequence players will not be allowed at any PIT football games/functions for the duration of their suspensions.
2. Teams will not be able to replace a suspended player. Teams have lost Division 1 players to suspension and then request a player of equitable caliber to replace that player for the duration of the suspension. This will not be allowed. Ideally this will help reduce the number of suspension-able offenses if both the players AND the teams know the repercussions of the suspension. The hope is that teams will also moderate the behavior of their players better knowing the repercussions for the team if they decide to be teammates with a hothead.

Appeals:

1. The cost for an appeal has been increased to $100 from $50. Appeals processes take considerable time to coordinate. Players will still receive full reimbursement if they win their appeal.
2. All appeals must now be sent in writing to both the league disciplinarian and league administrator within 48 hours (2 days) of a notice of suspension. If a player has a game within the 48 hour time frame they must notify the league of their intent to appeal a minimum of 6 hours prior to their game and have their $100 into the league at that time.

The PIT takes the integrity of the game very seriously. We hope the resultant changes to our processes will make the game more enjoyable for the 95% of the league who never run afoul of referees, other players or league administrators.

I for one think this is a great step in the direction of more respect and enjoyment of this game we all love.

Thanks Chris, we are attempting to make the PIT the safest and most enjoyable league in all of rec sports. Bad apples make the game a lot less enjoyable so we are hoping that the measures above will make the game better for all involved.
