Halifax, Nova Scotia will play host to the 2016 Senior Flag Football Invitational, from Friday May 27 through Sunday May 29, to determine who will represent Canada at the 2016 IFAF (Senior Men’s and Women’s) Flag Football World Championships in the Bahamas. The 2016 Senior Flag Football Invitational follows the Flag Football National Championships which take place the weekend prior in Halifax.

With the PIT Football League's recent partnership with Football Manitoba we are now eligible to participate in this national event! Football Manitoba has offered to pay for up to half the costs of travel to this tournament with the PIT Football league kicking in some additional funding so that the costs to the team traveling to Halifax will be minimal. Who will participate in this team? Football Manitoba is offering tryouts to prospective players to be held on the following dates:

Thursday March 24th from 7:10pm to 8:10pm
Saturday March 26th from 3:30pm to 5:00pm
Location: Subway Soccer Complex (the indoor complex)

Participants must attend both tryout sessions. Representatives from Football Manitoba will be on hand to assess the tryouts and ultimately choose the participants for the team. The team will consist of 10 traveling players and 2 alternates (in case of injury or other unforeseen events that would prevent a player on the traveling team from participating).

To be eligible to play for the provincial flag team you must meet the following criteria:

1. Be a Canadian citizen and 18 years of age as of December 31st 2015.
2. Be able to attend both tryout sessions.
3. Be able to participate in the entirety of the Spring session of PIT Indoor football which will be used as practice (Season runs April 8th to May 14th).
4. Complete and return the Flag Football Tryout Form found here: http://pitfootball.com/league_files
5. Pay the $50 fee for tryouts.

Costs to the player will include the $50 registration fee, the Spring indoor Registration fee, and any additional costs not covered by Football Manitoba and the PIT Football League. Both organizations will endeavor to ensure that the team has as little to pay as possible for this great opportunity to represent Manitoba in the National Championships...and if the provincial team should win, Canada in the world championships! Keep in mind the rules of flag are quite different than what you may be used to. Here are some of the rules that you should familiarize yourself with: http://pitfootball.com/menu/indoor-flag-rule-book

Good luck to all of those who wish to tryout for the Provincial team!

A reminder the deadline for registering for the Senior Men's flag football provincial team is this coming Sunday March 20th!

Do you think you have what it takes to be one of the top 12 players in the province? If so, fill out the registration form linked in the above post and send in your $50 fee to set up your tryout...and potentially a trip to Halifax for the Nationals, and if all goes well, the Bahamas for the worlds! Here are some highlights from the 2012 world championships where Canada placed sixth out of the sixteen qualifying teams.
