Masters: Portsmouth Spartans defeat Rochester Jeffersons 43-24
In our first ever battle for a Masters Division title the Portsmouth Spartans reign as the champs defeating the Jeffersons on the strength of three TDs each by Jeff Chisholm and Sean Lehmann. A strong contingent of teams played over the Winter and we have high hopes that this division will continue to thrive, especially after both the #1 and #2 seeds were knocked out of the playoffs demonstrating the parity in the division!
Coed 1: Team Bacon Wave defeat Flying Squirrels 36-35
The two highest scoring teams in the division didn’t disappoint in perhaps the best game of the night. Both teams put on an aerial display that the defenses had little answer for. The game came down to the last play of the game with the Bacon Wave holding on a goal line stand to win the game by a single point.
Coed 2: Road Rockets defeat Dramatic Chipmunks 25-06
The Road Rockets ran the gauntlet this night defeating El Beavador earlier in the night before defeating the Dramatic (or was that drunken Chipmunks) in the final. The Chipmunks had earlier defeated the Clam Diggers and decided that the two hours between the semis and the finals should be dedicated to hitting up the bar…which didn’t seem to help the cause come the championship game!
Elite: Iced Earth defeat The Alliance 1-0 (Default)
Two unfortunate injuries that occurred minutes before the championship game left the Alliance with only four healthy players and the Elite final had to be called due to default. An unfortunate way to both win and lose the preeminent title in the PIT.
Division 1: The Horde defeat Dream teamin’ ain't easy 41-18
The Horde avenged their regular season defeat to Dream Teamin’ by racking up 41 points spread across five different receivers. Up and coming star Cam “I like the booze” Penner scored twice but the most valuable players have to go to Dave Robson and Brayden Berstein who took turns rushing (and keeping in check) Jason Kelly who is probably the most dangerous running QB in PIT history. The Horde has now won three straight Division 1 championships…might be time to test the Elite waters for this team.
If you are a zombie fan and think World War Z sucked (it did) check out The Horde. Low budget, English subtitles and just plan awesome. What a zombie movie should be.
Division 2: LEVELS! defeat Brewers 25-18
Ray St. Mars has his coming out party scoring 18 points and grabbing an interception in the back-and-forth Division 2 final. Playing without one of their best players the Brewers keep this game close but in the end the LEVELS! defense proved too much limiting the Brewers scoring opportunities and holding a team under 20 points for the fifth time in the season!
Division 3: Football Junkies defeat Team RVC 27-13
Team RVC’s miracle run to the finals was eventually stopped by the Football Junkies. RVC lost its QB and perhaps best receiver (the QB got signed to the CFL so that is a pretty good excuse!) but managed to keep plugging along outlasting YCCT in overtime in the semis. But unfortunately for RVC they had no answer for the 14 points of Steven Trinder and 4 TD passes from Neil McKernan in the final.
Division 4: Money Balls defeat New World Order 44-33
Defense need not apply in this score fest. New World Order was led by the five touchdown passes of Chris Silva and the 20 points and 2 sacks of Jordan Fyvie while the Money Balls replied with 6 TDs passes from Julian Banaras and 19 points and an interception from Cam “The Beer Pong Guru” Penner. A great game for those who enjoy run and gun football.
Division 5: Tribe 2.0 defeat U.S.O 38-12
The Tribe win their first indoor championship after enduring some real tough final and semi-final losses over the past few seasons. You have to learn to lose before you learn to win and now that the Tribe has broken through in both outdoor and indoor this will be a team to watch out for! The Tribe was led by game MVP Brayden Bernstein who scored 12 points, threw for 4 touchdowns and took down an INT. All in a day’s work.
Division 6: Cannonball defeat The Mongolian Village Destroyers 19-15
The fourth seeded Cannonball knocked off the #1 seed TopGear then the #2 seed MVD to take the division 6 championship…any given Sunday (or in this case Saturday). In this defensive game Cannonball was led by the 2 touchdowns and seven points from Pat Allen and the 12 points and interception from Simon Ritchie. MVD player and game MVP Bob Campbell kept the game close with three interceptions in the game.
Division 7: Meat's Pizzeria defeat Barracudas 38-12
Say what you want about Meat’s Pizzeria, they always deliver! From their beginnings as the Charleswood Champs to their newest reincarnation of the Pizzeria these guys seem to always be holding the championship trophy when all is said and done. That could be because of their team depth having six different players score touchdowns in a game is quite an impressive feat and the main reason Barracuda is now being served as the newest topping on the Pizza menu.
Division 8: Not To Sure defeat Deadliest Catch 28-26
Not To Sure may not know how to spell but they do know how to win championships! Led by the Brothers White Not To Sure narrowly defeated Deadliest Catch by two points. QB Mike White ran in for a touchdown, threw three more and grabbed a pick, while Dayton White led the team with 12 points. Replying for Deadliest Catch was Ian Bowie with 12 points and Josh Sobering with 13. These two teams will keep the rivalry brewing in Spring!
Division 9: Ripping and Tearing defeat Dammit Donald! 34-18
Ripping and Tearing win the belated Division 9 championship over Dammit Donald! in a game that featured the class of the division and perhaps the two best players in the Div with Cam “Asian Deion’s Nightmare” Penner and Simon Blaszczak. Simon showed his CFL pedigree coming up big with 18 points and was almost matched by teammate Jamie Morris’16. The duo proved too much for the up and coming Walt Disney fans.
Division 10: The D defeat Dread Zone 26-06
The D played some lock down D on the Dread Zone holding them to just six points. The D were led by rookie QB Kelsey McKay’s 4 touchdown passes, two to veteran Onslaught player Jordan Scholefield. The D’s D collectively had four interceptions and forced a sack to ensure the Dread Zone never got more than a sniff of the end zone. Unfortunately for the Dread Zone it is their second straight championship defeat…hopefully third time is a charm for these guys!
Division 11: Touched By Angels defeat VG-Unit 45-33
Another high scoring affair as the Unit couldn’t rise to the heights of the Angels. The Angels were led by the 13 points of Quinten Harris and the 12 points of Eric Purcell while the Unit high scorers were Inderveer Deol and Jeffery Weselake who had 19 and 13 points respectively. Touched by Angels take home their second straight championship trophy while the Unit wonders what could have been if star player Jamie Bouvier had actually played rather than sitting out so he could stand in front of a mirror and comb his hair.
Division 12: Great White Hype defeat Honey Badgers 19-6
The Hype proved the hype correct as they stole the Badgers honey. The hype was led by resident crazy ref Al “I will kill you” Desaulniers and the 12 points of Roy Almero. Jeremy Human scored the lone six for the Badgers who were a little decimated by injuries, one to team captain Ryan Paradis. The Hype’s championship victory will be lorded over All Night Wong for the rest of their lives and probably long into the afterlife.
Division 13: Armchair Athletes defeat Beerhawks 33-18
Armchair Athletes did their usual yo-yo trick going 0-5 in one season only to win a championship in the next. This year was championship year…next year they are in trouble! Armchair was led by the two touchdown receptions from Tommy Howes and Steve Scott while the Beerhawks scored three touchdowns from three different receivers. The Beerhawks were missing Rodney “Neil McKernan hates me on offense” Patterson which left a large void in the Beerhawks offense and secondary.
Division 14: Chuggernauts defeat Bruiser Brigade 13-6
The Chuggernauts defeat newcomers Bruiser Brigade who made the finals after their semi-final opponents Death from Above were caught using an illegal player (note to teams: do not use illegal players!). They almost made the most of their championship opportunity falling to the Chuggernauts by 7. The Chuggernauts were led by the three sacks of Matt “I will Ceasar You While Blocking a Punt” Schwark and the 2 TD passes and interception from Drew Mackenzie.
Division 15: Rebel Scum defeat DOGS 20-9
The Dogs reach the final in their first ever season in the PIT but are put down by the veteran Rebel Scum team. The Scum were led by the 2 TD passes and 7 points of David Lundberg and the touchdown receptions from Kevin Oakley and Jermain Lumsden. The Dogs got all 9 points from Isaac Ndlovu. The future looks bright or the Dogs who are yet another of the real young teams in the league that will be the future stars of the PIT!
Division 16: We are Marshall's Buddy Bob defeat The Avengers 20-6
Marshall threw three touchdowns to his buddy’s Robert Penner, Jamie Felsch, and Matthew Edwards which proved too much for the Avengers. The superheroes were led into battle by Jorden Loewen’s TD pass to Colin Yarchuk but on this day Ultron, Loki, and the rest of the Marshall’s of Evil would reign!
Division 17: Spanish Channel News Team defeat Bert Stare 19-10
Raj Saran scores 18 and gets a pick while Neil Dhillon threw for three touchdown passes as the Spanish Channel News Team defeated Bert Stare by 9. Jordan Penner had a sack, interception and two point convert for Bert Stare in defeat. This game got a little heated, so much so that other News Teams took to the battlefield!
Division 18: #D1Bound defeat Lunch Bunches 30-06
#D1 Bound proved their namesake correct as this first year team took Division 18 by storm and will be heading up the divisional ladder the next time they play. #D1 Bound avenged their only regular season loss playing lights out defense led by Sam Blakely’s 3 sacks and interceptions from Kellen Pooles and Brendan Naujoks.
Division 19: Unicorn Football Club defeat Danger Zone! 31-12
The Unicorns proved they are for real sending the Danger Zone! To a resounding defeat. Raj Saran who was winning championships all over the place on this night had three interceptions and 7 points while Sukhman Brar and Amit Manget each put in twelve. Despite the defeat the Danger Zone! is still a classic Archer bit.
Division 20: Jimmy's Brother defeat Mustard Tigers 19-18
Jimmy’s Brother ran away with this division going undefeated and putting on display both the best offense and defense in D20, but don’t tell the Mustard Tigers who almost pulled the major upset losing out by a single point in the final. Joshua Lizana had three touchdown passes for the Mustard Tigers two to Erich Meyer. That was matched by Aaron Warelis and Dustin Desmarais of Jimmy’s Brother. The deciding point came off the convert from Andrew Warelis in this nailbiter!
Division 21: Sherotta defeat Football! 27-0
Sherotta got touchdowns from Sukhman Brar, Tim Hothi, Shawn Dhalla, and Harmon Brar and got the shutout against Football! Props though to Football! as they played the game with only four players and made the game surprisingly competitive. Hats off to Daniel Holzer, Jim Klien, Jim Soltess, and Jason Karpa (the latter two of Morningwood fame) who battled to the final whistle in this one.
Division 22: The Money Team defeat Piston Ringers 15-1
The Money team was money with the game on the line holding the first place Piston Ringers to a single point. Marco Valera, David Keo, and Brandin Chernetski all had interceptions to hold the high powered offense of the Piston Ringers at bay. Harold Memita and David Keo scored for the money team to ensure the defense had enough to hold down Fort Knox.
Thanks to all 141 teams who registered in the Winter making the PIT the largest touch football league in Canada. A record 26 trophies were handed out and for those of you who got to hold one up you noticed that they are now quite a bit larger. The trophies got a facelift with multiple rungs added to the trophies to accommodate the “Stanley Cup” style motif that has become synonymous with the PIT.
