Back by popular demand we will be once again be holding a coed division (or divisions depending on popularity) in the Winter season. The first coed season was run last Winter and we had eight teams register however due to the large number of elite and division 1 players who entered coed there were some significant parity differences among teams. In the Spring we changed the rules in an effort to make coed less competitive and more enjoyable for all participants.
As such the following rule was implemented and will be in play come the Winter season: Any time a team fields a roster in which there are 2 males on the field who played in Division 1 or higher in the past calender year then there must be 3 females on the field. If the males on the field played in divisions 2 or lower then the team could have up to three males on the field (or one player of Div 1/Elite calibre and two of Div 2 or lower calibre). The rule change made it much more difficult on the teams who chose to field teams of elite calibre players.
In the Spring after the rule was enacted we had a 4-way tie for first place with teams accumulating identical 3-2 records, one team with a 2-3 record, and the bottom team still took home a win at 1-4. In this way the playing field was leveled. Our mandate for coed is that it should be for fun so teams should conduct themselves accordingly. Teams should examine their rosters to ensure that their players will meet all eligibility requirements as there will be no exceptions granted for this rule.
Hopefully we can have another season of coed that was as enjoyable as we had in the Spring session and we can grow this segment of our league!
