Here is a brief summary of each of our championship games. Scott will be getting pictures of the teams and MVPs up shortly. Congratulations to each of our champions from the record breaking summers season which saw fifteen champions crowned!
Flag Division 1: Royal Knights of the Endzone defeat Doggs 23-22
Perhaps the best final in the PIT this year came courtesy of our newest division in flag. The Royal Knights trailed at the half to the undefeated juggernaut that was the Doggs only to storm back and score the tying touchdown with eight seconds left and then score the winning convert on the ensuring play. Props to the Knights who didn’t give up and for defeating the undefeated!
Flag Division 2: Crimson Tide defeat Vipers 39-25
In the first ever flag football final the Crimson Tide bested the Vipers using a precision offense led by the four touchdown passes and two scramble TDs of game MVP Rob Noel in combination with the twenty points scored by WR Mike Funk. The veteran team used a good combination of the running game along with short and long passes to keep the Vipers off balance. The Tide flawlessly executed the intricacies of the flag game to earn their first championship.
Elite: Iced Earth defeat Doggs 34-20
A rough game as tempers flared and multiple players were ejected. Unfortunately the Doggs were already short-handed after injuries to perhaps to two best players in the province put them behind the eight ball before the game even started...the ejections didn’t help the matter! Iced Earth did what all good teams do: capitalized on the Doggs shortened bench to win their first elite championship.
Division 1: Walking Dead defeat Dream Team 34-20
Walking Dead was left for dead to start the season having come together in a matter of 48 hours just prior to the season start date. The season began rough with the team starting 2-6 but once the Dead jelled (congealed?) they were the hottest team coming into the playoffs going 10-1 down the stretch. The young guns of Everad Jackson, Mark Ridd, Max Jeanson, Brayden Berstein and Chad Okamura demonstrated that the youngest offensive lineup in the top divisions could play with the best and gave the league a glimpse of what the future of those divisions have in store.
Division 2: No D defeat the Knights 39-0
Not unlike the Walking Dead, No D finished the season on a 10-1 run. No D carried their momentum into the championship game firing on all cylinders. No D was led by Martin “Too much Patron” Windus and Cal “I was robbed of MVP” Bailey in a game in which everything broke No D’s way. I have come out on the wrong end of these types of defeats to Mr. Jim Bell over the years and win or lose he is always a class act. Let’s hope he can get his team of veterans and rookies together for another run in 2014. Bill No D for one championship trophy as there is no way it survives the windup.
Division 3: Woodys defeat Rebels 25-6
QB Scott Rhodes gave the Rebels a whole lot of wood as he penetrated the Rebels for four touchdowns to four different receivers. On the other side of the ball(s) the Woodys’ defense stiffened to prevent the Rebels from engorging the end zone. The battle hardened Woodys demonstrated their stamina as they were able to outlast the Rebels in what they hope is a series of orgasmic performances.
Division 4: Ballsagna defeat Snappers 37-0
If you like lasagna and if you like balls then you will love the score in the Ballsagna game. Game MVP Neil “Shark Club” Gwizon called a stellar defense that held the high flying Snappers in check on route to the shut out in a surprisingly lopsided affair. The Snappers couldn’t repeat as Div 4 champs in large part to the spread offense that saw Ballsagna QB Josh Weisz throw five TD passes to five different receivers.
Division 5: Shiva Blast defeat U Can’t Touch This 26-20
Two years running Shiva Blast shocks the division as the 8th seeded Shiva Blast was able to end Hammer Time in the final game of the PIT 2013 outdoor season. Led by the two touchdowns receptions by Taylor Soos and the MVP play of Josh Claeys (12 points, an interception and two touchdown passes) the Shiva Blast proved that they won’t be in the Sacko Bowl anytime soon.

Division 6: Barracudas defeat Aphids 18-13
A bridesmaid no more as Hoan Mac breaks out in an MVP performance to lead the Barracudas to his team’s first championship in the PIT. The Barracudas defeated an Aphids team that started the season 0-9 and finished 11-1 before succumbing to the Barracuda feeding frenzy. To the Barracudas go the spoils and perhaps the best cover tune in history:

While falling short a shout out to the Aphids who finished their 20th season of touch football in style (crazy that their first year was also mine and I remember getting my first ever point against the Aphids team!).
Division 7: The Tribe defeat The Aints 24-21
The Tribe were yet another team that started the season very slowly coming out of the gates 1-5 but with a QB change came a run that culminated in a championship. Led by Brayden and Griffin Berstein who brought some experience from the Walking Dead the Tribe transformed themselves into a juggernaut. Learning from their two losses to the Aints in the regular season Brayden Berstein broke out with three TD passes, a running score and an interception to earn MVP honours.
Division 8: Clip Clops defeat the MegaPowers 20-0
How do you summarize the defensive wizardry that is the Clip Clops? 11 shutouts in 21 games!?! 85 points given up in 18 regular season games! How about 8 straight shutouts??? (32 quarters!), three players in the top ten in interceptions, two players in the top four in sacks!?! Shutting out the second-seeded MegaPowers in all three games during the season including the final!!!! Congrats gentlemen on some records that will probably never be broken! More exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Division 9: Quick Slants defeat Fat as F*ck 26-12
Quick Slants appeared to be the class of the division but Fat as F*ck wouldn’t go down without a fight. F*ck was led by the two touchdowns of Todd Pasternak and two sacks from Jeff Medal however it wasn’t enough to overcome game MVP Braedon Speer who threw four touchdowns to four different receivers. Two new teams in the PIT battled for the division, nice to see some new blood on the turf!
Division 10: BAAAAAM!!! Peanut Butter and Jam defeat Go Deep 22-6
Peanut Butter and Jam proved to be a perfect combination of offense, defence and flavor as they went deep on Go Deep in the final. PB&J was another bottom seed to win a championship finishing the regular season in 7th place the 1st after the playoff dust settled. Parity is synonymous with the PIT and the Jam was able to prevent Hoan Mac from collecting his second set of hardware on the day. With 167 players on their roster PB&J also did a number on our stock of PIT championship t shirts!
Division 11: (Debauchery Bowl) TD Twisters defeat NE Hawkeyes 15-8
The TD Twisters went on quite a run knocking off the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th seeds on route to their first outdoor championship. The Twisters double rushed Hawkeyes QB Daniel Vincente all night and the strategy paid off as they kept the division leading scorer in check. Cam Penner had some huge catches, an awesome pick and eight points on route to a game MVP award!
Division 12: (Shiva Bowl) Raging Bulls defeat Nuts & Cider 24-0
In the PIT’s third annual Shiva Bowl the Raging Bulls played some lights out defense holding the(ir) Nuts offense in check. The Bulls were led by the precision passing of game MVP Jon Doherty. Both of these teams had a tough year yet were able to persevere and demonstrate sportsmanship that many recreational sports teams could learn from. Congrats to both teams on a well-played game. We hope you enjoyed the East Side Eagles experience. Fly ducks fly…and watch the league.
