A very busy start to the season which saw the record breaking spring indoor season finish right at the beginning of the record breaking summer season. The annual referee clinic, referee appreciation night, lining six fields to get the season kicked off all while trying to get a schedule completed for 106 teams with literally thousands of schedule requests kept us very busy. Needless to say that the over 20% increase in teams came as a bit of a surprise and caused a few sleepless nights as we worked to ensure a smooth beginning to the season. We thank teams for being patient as the schedule went up, Scott and I have a few ideas about how to streamline the process next year to ensure the schedule is up quicker than ever before.

With 106 teams and nearly 1400 players the PIT has re-staked its claim as not only the largest touch football league in Canada but also the largest touch league in Canadian touch football history. The huge number of teams and players is a true testament to the loyal following of touch football players in the PIT. It is you who have made the league what it is. With field costs rising over 105% this season due to the faulty logic of city councillors (would be expect anything less?) it was hard to predict the number of teams that would register. Adult recreational sports are not a city priority and that is demonstrated by the poor playing conditions of some of the fields and the high cost to use those same dilapidated fields. The PIT will be trying out Adrenaline Adventures come August (assuming the fields are ready) to see whether a private facility would be more enjoyable than the city fields we currently play on.

In return for your support we endeavor to ensure all fields are lined every three weeks, that three referees are at your games, scores are entered promptly with accurate stats, parity across divisions, not to mention team captain all-star games (keep posted for the date!) and special accommodations for championship finals. There should be both a north end and south end field running each night this summer to ensure that teams play close to home for the majority of their schedule. We also have procured some great sponsors including Boston Pizza and Just for Looks who are donating player of the week awards (up shortly!), Harv-Al sportswear which gives great deals on jerseys, Home Run Sports which provides 10% off purchases when you mention you play in the PIT, among other great sponsors which can be found here: http://www.pitfootball.com/sponsors

A big thanks to Boston Pizza who provided the hospitality offering beers and pizza to each of our team captains along with a free large pizza gift certificate to each of the teams in the PIT.

Good luck to all 106 teams across 14 different divisions in your quest for championship glory.

For the players, by the players
