A record 24 championship trophies were handed out to end the Winter 2013 season. Our biggest and longest season saw the additions of coed and divisions 19 through 22. The skill level of the younger players has continued to impress and improve as players now have the opportunity to ply their trades year round in the PIT. Five years from now we might be seeing talent levels unprecedented in touch football history.

Coed – Clam Diggers defeat Catwoman and his Kittens 21-19
In a great finish to our inaugural season of coed football the #3 seeded Clam Diggers knocked off the undefeated Catwoman team in a barn burner. The ladies accounted for five of the six touchdown scores with Kristen Froese scoring 12 points for the Champion Clam Diggers. On the other side of the ball Melissa Denesiuk also potted 12 and Marchella Costantino 6 for Catwoman. The ladies represented this year which bodes well for the future of the division!

Elite – Avengers defeat Levels! 42-32
The Avengers use Winter as a tune up for summer and to go on the recruiting trail. A couple of bright prospects have been added to the Avengers farm system which will help with depth come summer. Depth was something the Avengers sorely lacked last year. The Avengers we led by the five combined touchdowns of stalwarts Marshal Cox and Gavin Panchuk.

Division 1 – Iced Earth defeat Dream Team 36-20
Iced Earth ends the dream and demonstrates why two teams repeatedly get their names inscribed on the trophy with not much room for others. Carlo Bruneau, Chris Krupa, and Andrew Westwood all had two touchdown receptions from Mike Brownridge in the victory.

Division 2 – Levels! defeat The Furry Jeffery 28-12
Just to show the parity in division 2 (meaning teams from division three are going to start moving up to two!) Levels went 0-5 in Fall, refused to move down to division 3 despite the PIT’s recommendations and then proved us all wrong by winning the Division 2 championship in the Winter. Parity was emphasized as the win was over the Furry Jeffery, a division 3 team from the fall which moved up to take on the big guns with ease in the Winter!

Division 3 – Brewers defeat You Can’t Coach That 24-23 (overtime)
Brewers win their fifth championship game in the PIT in an overtime thriller against YCCT. These two teams always put on a show and should be mainstays in the same division for years to come…although with that many victories comes teams gunning for you and moving up to face stiffer competition in the future!

Division 4 – U Can’t Touch This defeat Slobberknockers 25-19
U Can’t Touch This wins a close one against a Slobberknockers team playing without their starting quarterback. The Slobbies would have pulled the upset if it wasn’t for Jesse Clarke’s three interceptions and three touchdown pass performance. Another great game played in the pantheon of PIT history.

Division 5 – Fighting Cone Snails defeat Meat’s Pizzeria 25-24
In perhaps the game of the night, Meat’s Pizzeria couldn’t quite deliver within the 60 minute time limit allowing TFCS to win at the wire. Julian Banares led the attack scoring a TD, getting a pick, and throwing for three TD passes for TFCS. Based on their play this season the TFCS will bring their dangerous proboscis attack to division four next season! Time to go National Geographic on your asses.

Division 6 – The Filthy Few defeat The Ducks 27-12
The Filthy Few went duck hunting shooting down the ducks by nearly a 16 gauge margin. These two teams knocked off the top seeds in the division setting up a showdown in which up and coming QB Josh Pereira used as target practice throwing for three TDs and running for a fourth.

Division 7 – Peppermint Hippo defeat GOATS 13-7
In a battle of the two best teams in the division the Hippo evened the season series and took home the championship in a defensive battle. Both QBs were limited to just one touchdown pass a piece but Owen Nagy used some skills he learned at THE Ohio State to scramble for the winning touchdown. A close battle of teams who played the last game of the Winter 2013 season.

Division 8 – Exploding Katchalus defeat the Tribe 18-14
The potatoes take out the tribe in a defensive battle that saw game MVP Alex Hebert throw for three touchdown passes, grab two interceptions, and sack the opposing QB for good measure. Brayden Berstein kept the score low by tracking down the aforementioned elusive Hebert to the tune of eight quarterback sacks.

Division 9 – Yolmes defeat Gangnam Style 21-20 (overtime)
Gangnam Style ties the game on the last play of the game but are felled in overtime as Chris Yard catches the winning convert from game MVP Chris “Noodles” Noonan. Mr. Noonan showed why he was a force in the elite division for so many years getting battered and bloodied chasing around the elusive Nick Trinder and holding him in check long enough to earn Rob “Longest Championship Drought” Chaput his first championship. Hopefully the beer tasted good after that win Rob!

Division 10 – Rolling 7s defeat Rhinos 52-32
The 84 points put up in this game still wasn’t good enough for the highest scoring game of the night. Having said that the 7s Rolled on the back of Nick Trinder’s 19 points, Jordan Fyvie’s 14, and Steve Trinder’s 13. Darren Bishop of the Rhino’s countered with five touchdown passes and Steve Nabess had 19 points but it wasn’t enough to overcome the combination of speed and veteran savvy that the 7s have put together.

Division 11 – The Young Guns defeat Picked Last in Gym Class 30-20
The Young Guns snuck into the playoffs after GC Elite defaulted a game toward the end of the season. Demonstrating that once you are in the playoffs anything can happen. The Young Guns denied Josh Pereira’s bid for a second championship while at the same time becoming the first “fifth seed” to every win a PIT championship. Congrats gentlemen…parity reigns supreme!

Division 12 – Cobra Kai defeats Can’t Touch This 29-14
Cobra Kai sweeps the leg of Can’t Touch This to complete the undefeated season.

Ian Milne avoided the crane kick from Can’t Touch This to the tune of four touchdown passes. All that painting the fence and waxing the floor didn’t pay off for the Hammer groupies.

Division 13 – Deadliest Catch defeat Muck Show 44-12
Deadliest catch avenges their only regular season defeat by handily defeating Muck Show. Led by the powerful cards dealt by Ryan Ferland’s seven touchdown passes and pairs of TDs from Chris Godfrey, Levi Sobering and Josh Sobering their opponents had no choice by to muck their hand.

Division 14 – The Sound and Fury defeat Maclin on Your Girl 25-7
The GOOCH throws for four touchdowns, one each to Ziggy Bernard, Brian McKnight, Kris Piki, and Josh Westlake to keep Maclin on Your Girl on their toes. Little known fact both quarterbacks in this game at one point played on the Avengers! Hopefully both of these sides get a summer team going to keep the rivalry going.

Division 15 – Ninjas in Paris defeat Manchild United FC 46-40
These two teams tried to blow the score clock off its moorings by putting up 86 points in the first game of the night! Cameron Tirschman and Evan Weins both threw for six TD passes but Evan was also able to add a running TD which was the difference in the score. If you like high scoring end to end action this was the game to be watching championship night. Kick it Ninja style.

Division 16 – Touchdown My Pants defeat Mayhem 32-12
RB hooked up five times to the Loszchuk brothers one to Adam and four to Colin in the victory over Mayhem. The final score is less relevant than the health of Tyrone Oakely who took an accidental hit during the game that left him unconscious for quite some time. The PIT wishes Tyrone a speeding recovery and we hope to see him back soon.

Division 17 – The Rouge defeats Funky Fresh Boyz 19-13
The Rouge completes their 72 Dolphins season taking out the Funky Fresh Boyz by a score. Terry Martins has made a successful transition from stalwart defensive back to quarterback and claims his first championship along the way. FFB had a successful first season coming close but unfortunately they were not able to krunk their way to the title.

Division 18 – Average Joes defeat Shockers 16-12
Nothing average about the Joes defeat of the Shockers. Stefan Schneider threw for four touchdowns two to Landon Orchard. James Filby had two sacks and touchdown for the wining side while the Shockers countered with TDs from Seth Penner and Brent Fabris from the arm of Steve Thomas.

Division 19 – The Jive Turkey “Gobble Gobble” Gobblers defeat The Spanish Channel News Team 21-13
The pregame speech by Jim Harbaugh worked as the Turkeys gobbled the News Team 21-13. The Gobblers were led by head Jive Turkey Travers Cummings three touchdown passes, two of which connected to Evan Kowbel.

Props to Ganni Mann of the Spanish Channel News Team who played the championship game despite his wife going into labour! Set the tone for parenthood Ganni!

Division 20 – We are Marshall’s Wife defeat Beerhawks 25-6
The lady cannot be stopped as Team Manitoba Women’s QB and National Women’s tackle football phenom Roxanna Cox leads We are Marshall’s wife to an undefeated season all while throwing a divisional record 21 TD passes. We are Marshall’s wife will be looking to three-peat and sweep all three indoor seasons after taking both the Fall and Winter championships.

Division 21 – Old Skool defeat TD Twisters 34-19
Old Skool has been a mainstay in the PIT indoor since we started five years ago. Despite all their chances they have never managed to pull off a championship…until now. Led by Josh Hazlehurst’s five touchdown passes and William Smith’s three touchdowns Old Skool vanquished the TD Twisters and their championship demons.

Division 22 – Off in the Shower defeat Herniated Goat Scrotes 48-13
Off in the Shower took Division 22 handily as they were probably not quite as “new” to the game as many of the other teams in the division. Having said that hats off to an undefeated season and a resounding victory in your first foray into the PIT. Off in the shower is off to bigger and better things in higher divisions in the future. Divisional opponents meanwhile will continue to try to “beat off in the shower”.

Congratulations to each of the teams who took home one of the record 24 trophies handed out in the Winter. Each player on the championship teams will have their names engraved “Stanley Cup” style on each of the trophies, forever immortalizing their accomplishments in PIT lore!

The PIT Crew apologizes for the lateness of the championship pictures from our Winter season but here are the links:

When you need things done and done right you might as well do it yourself.

Congrats again to the record 24 champions of the Winter season.
