Congratulations to the record 11 championship teams in what was an amazing summer of football. The PIT would like to thank all 82 teams who came out to battle for championship glory and have a lot of fun along the way. A huge number of young players and teams will ensure a bright future for touch football in Manitoba! A summer synopsis is on the way but first here is a rundown of the summer 2012 championship games.

Division 1 Iced Earth defeat The Guild of Calamitous Intent 34-20
Iced Earth win their first outdoor title wresting the championship belt from the Guild in a game marred by a blackout at East Side Eagles field negating the last 16 minutes of the game with the ball in Guild possession. Two great teams did battle this day with an unfortunate end to was has become one of the best rivalries in touch football. Will the game become as legendary as this one?

Division 2: Blazers defeat No D 33-13
The Blazers have traditionally been a force to be reckoned with in indoor but doormats in outdoor. In 2012 the Blazers pulled off a worst to first scenario taking home their first Division 2 championship against a No D team that had owned the Blazers during the regular season. Blazers QB Scott McArthur throws 5 TD passes (2 of them pick sixes to No D) to keep the game interesting.

Division 3: Rebels defeat Big Deal 27-7
A battle of two teams who have always seemed to find themselves in divisional finals but without the associated final successes. In this one the Rebels break their curse while Big Deal goes home heartbroken again. MVP Chris Koolage throws 4 TD passes, 2 after inexplicably pulling himself from the game. Congrats to both teams who knocked off the top two seeds in convincing fashion on route to the final.

Division 4: Snappers defeat Polk High 35-12
Al Bundy always had defeat snatched from victory and Polk High has seen a similar fate with another heart wrenching playoff loss. A botched kickoff coverage leading to a TD and a drive extending penalty might have been the turning points for this one. Todd Pasternak puts his stamp on this game with 4 TDs and well over 200 receiving yards in the romp.

Division 5: Roughnecks defeat He Hate Me 11-10
Rouges, rouges and more rouges. He Hate Me QB Luke Kennard punts 2 kick singles but that is no match for QB Chris Godfrey’s championship day record 5 punt singles, including one on the last play of the game for the win in a defensive thriller. Both teams had tough times moving the ball but in the end your Hall of Fame cast is made based on playoff successes not necessarily playoff performances.

Division 6: Shiva Blast defeat Barracudas 38-28
The Shiva Blast and Barracudas entered the final with a combined 17-19 regular season record but these two teams got hot when it counted in the playoffs led by great performances by QBs Josh Claeys and Hoan Mac. The Shiva came up big in the final though as game MVP Josh Sobering had perhaps the nicest pick 6 of the season. Congrats to two teams who battled hard all year! Here is some video of the Shiva Blast with the PIT trophy:

Division 7: Renegades defeat Blue Balls 39-0
The Renegades had perhaps the stingiest D in touch football pitching a record 9 shutouts this season!!! That defense was on display again as the Blue Balls simply couldn’t get things going on offense. Game MVP Kevin Brandt, he of over twenty years of touch football experience, gets his first ever title! An MVP performance is a pretty sweet way to end the drought, congrats!

Division 8: Brew Bombers defeat Da Beers 34-32
In the game of the night, which featured multiple lead changes, acrobatic catches, and sick throws the veteran laden Brew Bombers fend off the young upstart Da Beers. Some great catches by Jason Huclack and pinpoint accuracy by Greg Bilous kept the chains moving for the Brew Bombers. MVP QB Nick Cobb’s run and gun style was quite the crowd pleaser but came up just short on the Hail Mary attempt on the last play of the game.

Division 9: MegaPowers defeat Schooners 14-6
The MegaPowers dropped the atomic elbow on the Schooners in a game in which the prognosticators thought was going to be an offensive game considering the top two offenses in the division faced off. QB Jock Christie hooks up with Greg Chan and Luke Campbell for the MegaPowers only two scores. Surprisingly defense lead the way with the Schooners also coming up a bit short on the last gasp Hail Mary to end the game in this nail biter.

Division 10: The Greedy Smurfs defeat Manchild United 42-22
The Greedy Smurfs score early and score often on a Manchild team that was overwhelmed by the textbook play of QB Alex Daoust who was thrown into action when the Greedy Smurfs regular QB left town to go back to school. You wouldn’t know by the precision passing attack that Alex wasn’t a savvy veteran! The Greedy Smurfs started their touch football careers with a couple of winless seasons, but after getting some much needed experience they now have an outdoor title to pair with their Fall 2011 indoor title.

Division 11: Go Deep defeat Rolling 7s 14-7
In the first ever Division 11 tilt Go Deep doubles up on the Rolling 7s. Go Deep gets interceptions from Chad Hurd, Shaun Lothian, Chris Lothian (2) and Keith Unrau to keep the 7s offense off tilt. John Palmerton throws the only touchdown pass of the game to kick off a perfect day of football on championship Sunday at East Side Eagles field.

Congrats from your PIT Crew
