Messages for New Rules and May Schedule Update

The May schedule has been updated and completed. Teams should keep in mind that we received over 1000 schedule requests (really!) and that teams will have to be flexible. We are now 17 hours into scheduling and we only have the first month completed. If your team requested weekends and another weekdays you will have to split the difference. Here is a link to the updated schedule: http://www.pitfootball.com/seasons/913-summer-outdoor-2012/games/all/5
The PIT has updated some important rules that teams should familiarize themselves with. The rules for the 2012 season can be viewed here with the new rules in red: http://www.pitfootball.com/menu/outdoor-rules-2012
Here is a quick rundown of some of the new rules which are designed to help crackdown on defaults and ref abuse.
Disciplinary Procedures:
Players and referees should not be subjected to player threats, taunts, arguing or inappropriate conduct. Referees can assess objectionable conduct penalties, a 5 minute (game time, not running time!) player “timeout” or eject a player from a game for such conduct. An ejection carries an automatic one game suspension and potentially more depending on the severity of the offense. A single objectionable conduct will result in a 15 yard penalty; a second objectionable conduct penalty carries with it an automatic 5 minute player timeout. A third objectionable conduct penalty carries with it an automatic ejection. As per the referee’s judgement the escalation of penalties can be expedited. For example, a player may get a five minute timeout or be ejected on the first objectionable conduct penalty depending on the severity of the offense.
Default Policy:
The penalty for a 1st default is a $75 fine, along with an automatic loss, minus two points in the standings, and no player on the defaulting team shall be credited with a game played. This fine must be paid to the league administrators prior to the defaulting team’s next game or that game is also forfeited. The defaulting team must also post a $100 bond in case of a second default. This bond must also be provided at the same time as the default fee is paid. The penalty for a 2nd default forfeiture of the $100 bond along with an automatic loss, minus two points in the standings, and no player on the defaulting team shall be credited with a game played. The defaulting team must also post a $125 bond in case of a third default. This bond must also be provided prior to the defaulting team’s next game in case of a third default. The penalty for a 3rd default is forfeiture of the $125 bond and the team will be removed from the league for the season.
Playoff Seeding (tie-breakers):
First tie-breaker: In the event that two teams are tied and one of those teams has defaulted a game during the regular season, the non-defaulting team (or team with fewer defaults) will automatically receive the higher seed.

In an effort to have the most knowledgeable membership we try to keep everyone abreast of new rules and of course rule interpretations. The official touch football Canada rulebook has been updated. For those of you who want to become more knowledgeable about the game and rules - and thus providing a decisive advantage over your opponents you can check out the link here: http://www.pitfootball.com/league_file/file_name/818/TFO_Touch_Football_Rule_Case_Book_English_Version-April-2011.pdf?1336633173
As for a schedule update: Scott and I are about 60% complete the schedule however the schedule making is going on hiatus for a few days as Scott and I begin to field line and prepare for opening day Saturday. The remainder of the schedule will be out next week.
