Congratulations to the record 19 teams who took home championship trophies during the PIT's winter indoor season. Those 19 teams had to run the gauntlet of 106 teams to get their names inscribed on the nicest trophies in touch football today! Here is a brief synopsis of the championship games. Click here to check out the box scores: http://www.pitfootball.com/seasons/866-winter-indoor-2012/games/playoffs

ELITE: Avengers defeat Legendary 39-6
Avenger alum Kenton Onofrychuk led Legendary with an interception and 6 points, however “the legends” couldn’t knock off the National Champions on this day. The Mike Brownridge led Avengers offense put up 39 and their swarming defense took down 7 interceptions including three each by Harlo Larkin and Marshal “in-out-and up” Cox. Big ups to Tony Carvalho for piecing together a competitive Legendary roster throughout a difficult season. Anyone with information leading the capture of Arthur Garand please contact the PIT to find out how to claim your reward.

DIVISION 1: Guild of Calamitous Intent defeat Iced Earth 36-20
Jeff Kull puts on a quarterbacking clinic as the heavy underdog Guild shocked Iced Earth. With four regular Guild members MIA (the injury report read: missing in forest, brittle bones, narcolepsy, and caught in bear trap) the remaining five Guild members played lights out on both sides of the ball, getting a lead early and protecting it to the end. The legend of the Guild defense stepping up in playoff games was only solidified by this “calamitous” performance.

DIVISION 2: Blazers defeat Woodys 34-6
Blazer QB Scott McArthur saves his best performance for last, throwing 4 TDs to four different receivers and running one in himself. Jeff Kull wins his second trophy of the night hauling in 6 points and two interceptions. While Kull was solidifying his PIT MVP of the night award, the Chris Krupa led defense mixed it up well enough to keep the Woodys off-guard allowing all-world rusher Chibueze Uzoruo to terrorize the Woodys QBs.

DIVISION 3: Levels! defeat Ballsagna 26-0
Levels have always been characterized by having a stout defense but the emergence of QB Tanner Stepnuk has shot Levels up the ranks as perhaps THE team to watch moving forward in indoor. Tanner threw 4 TDs and yet another Chris Krupa led defense eats up Ballsagna, pitching the shutout in the process. Levels! will take their team to division 2 next year which means the Blazers are on the lookout for a new defensive coordinator.

DIVISION 4: Flaming Hemorrhoids defeat Brewers 31-26
“Flaming” QB Neil Gwizon had a chance to set the PIT record and win 4 championship games in a night but unfortunately was 0-3 in the three games prior to the start of this one. Not to be shut out of championship glory Neil stepped up his game throwing 4 TD passes, three to Derrick Shore, while also hauling in an interception. The beer from the trophy was probably bittersweet for Neil, but putting on that kind of performance after already playing three games proves how great of a player he is, while also proving that championships in the PIT are hard to come by!

DIVISION 5: Nomads defeat Slobberknockers 30-20
The Nomads brought an ancient and injury riddled team into battle against a Slobberknockers team that thoroughly crushed the Nomads during their one regular season battle. Vegas had the Slobberknockers as 25 point favorites, but that is why they play the game. Glen “oldest QB in the PIT” Dyck turned back the clock throwing 4 TD passes while keeping the stout Slobberknockers defense on their heels. Steven “youngest rusher in the PIT” Trinder, some 90 years Glen’s junior, sealed the victory for the Nomads by scoring two safeties on consecutive series to push the game out of reach and the Nomads into the champions circle.

DIVISION 6: Face Kick defeat Ninjas 49-33
The shootout of the night took place in division 6 where 82 points were scored! Some big nights for quite a few players on both teams. The stat line for the Ninjas: “Gus” Guspodarchuk 5 TD passes, Michael Froese 14 points, Bryce McDonald 18 points, and replying for Face Kick: Andrew Beveridge 7 TD passes, Marc Ross 15 points, Daniel Kristjansson 14 points, and Jamie Bouvier 12 points. The game score was closer than it appeared as Face Kick puts in a TD with seconds remaining to seal victory.

DIVISION 7: U Mad Bro defeat the Fighting Cone Snails (TFCS) 30-6
This one had game of the night written all over it with TFCS winning their regular season battle 31-26, however U Mad Bro came out early and landed a couple of telling blows and never relinquished the lead afterwards. The ever-elusive Jason Kelly throws 3 TDs and runs for another as this “Dreamteam” takes home the PIT’s division 7 crown. Everad Jackson was seen later that night drinking expired milk from the championship trophy, his first and definitely not last, championship in the PIT!

DIVISION 8: Mongolian Village Destroyers defeat Venum 26-0
3rd and 4th seeds met in the final where just a week earlier Venum stung MVD with a big win to sneak into the playoffs. MVD however repaid the favor in the final playing lock down defense. Phil Wallis and Bobby “C” Campbell lead the way for MVD with two interceptions a piece and three touchdowns overall. Only a matter of time before the veteran laden Venum team puts it together to take home their first championship.

DIVISION 9: Snipers defeat GOATS 30-12
Youth was definitely not served in this game as the ageless Snipers defeated the up-and-coming GOATS. The “Pachet connection” combined for 4 TD passes, one interception, and 12 points as the Snipers once again get their names inscribed on a PIT trophy. A big shout out to the GOATs who moved championship game time to avoid a Snipers default. A classy move by a classy young team. Hopefully the Sniper bought “beverages” at the end of the night help ease the sting of the loss.

DIVISION 10: Rolling 7s defeat Rhinos 48-25
Nick Trinder wins his second championship of the night in style, winning game MVP honours by scoring 20 points, hauling in a pick, and notching one in the sack column. Perennial finalists the Rolling 7s finally win the big one over a game Rhinos team who were playing a little short-handed. Props to Darren Bishop who QB’d the Rhinos to victory in the fall and to the championship game in the winter.

DIVISION 11: Da Beers defeat the Tribe 26-13
Two of the youngest teams in the PIT battled it out with Da Beers avenging their 27-0 drubbing at the hands of the first place Tribe during the regular season. A big turnaround for Da Beers who went 0-5 in the fall session. Chad Okumura playing with a bad hamstring threw 4 TD passes and punched his ticket to the Guild roster in the process, while teammates Reid Buchanan and Dane Cech-Manek win their second trophy of the night. The Brayden Berstein led Tribe are another team to watch for in the coming years. The future looks bright for both of these teams.

DIVISION 12: Million Dollar Wound defeat Beast Mode 20-18
The Slobberknocker family took another hit in this one as Beast Mode loses a close one to “the wound”. Tim Maguire throws for 2 td passes, Chris Perron had 2 interceptions, while Derek Persad downed 14 vodkas in the victory. Replying for Beast Mode were Teagan Sakaluk and Paul Tascona also with 2 TDs and 2 picks respectively. Only a convert and a bottle of vodka separated these two evenly matched teams.

DIVISION 13: Solid Oak defeat Los Locos El Tigre' From Mexico 26-6
Solid Oak started their PIT careers off with a “solid” 0-5 start in the bottom division, but from those lowly beginnings a team of great athletes emerged slowing moving up the divisional rankings. Despite winning a bunch of games a championship title had always eluded them…until now. Solid Oak lifers Reid Buchanan (3 TD passes), Kevin Hodge (4 sacks), and Dane Cech-Manek (6 points) led the way. Always nice to see a team in the league as long as Solid Oak has taking home their first title, congrats gentlemen!

DIVISION 14: North End Moose Knuckles defeat TeenAgeDream 30-12
Two teams on polar opposites on the name spectrum met with the Moose trampling the Teens 30-12. The Moose were led by Howie Eugenio’s 5 touchdown passes, 2 each to Oneil White and Alvin Pacag. JJ Mikolash countered for the Teens with a TD pass and a score. Howie is quietly inscribing his name on more than a few PIT trophies, take a look for it if you can wrestle a championship victory away from one of his teams!

DIVISION 15: Angelic Assassins defeat Deep Punts 40-38
Comeback of the night went to the Angelic Assassins who were down 24 points at halftime, only to roar back to 2-point victory in what also could have been the most exciting game. The undefeated double A’s were lead by JJ Mikolash’s 6 TD passes and Patrick Young’s 27 points in the furious comeback. Daniel Yusim (5 TD passes, 6 points) and Shane Marmel (18 points) replied for Deep Punts in this entertaining affair.

DIVISION 16: Spetsnaz defeat Downtown 32-31
The elite fighting force Spetsnaz will fight you in the country, the suburbs, or in this case Downtown as their initial strikes put them up big in the early stages of the battle. Downtown fought back furiously but could not recover from the initial volleys as Spetsnaz claims their first title in the one-point victory. Spetsnaz was led by Peter Reimer’s 3 TD passes, LaRoy Dueck’s 13 points, and game MVP Jay Santos' two sacks and two interceptions…both returned for touchdowns!

DIVISION 17: Throwin Picks and Textin Chicks defeat the Therapists 26-12
Throwing Picks downs the team that “no person may speak its name” with a convincing win. Colton Farago had three TD passes and a score, Kevin Johnson 13 points, and Brandon LeBleu added a sack, two picks, and a TD pass for the victors. Not a bad start for the Therapists Nolan Colby “Calet” as the Brewers stalwart brings his team to the championship game in his first attempt at quarterbacking in the league.

DIVISION 18: Bad Newz Kennels defeat Da Hot Pockets 19-12
Nearly 20 years ago, Bad Newz Kennels QB Jas Atwal won a QB challenge competition (defeating the Avengers QB in the process) and promptly retired from quarterbacking. Thrust into the QB spotlight for Bad Newz, older, slower, greyer, and debatably wiser, Jas led his team of “docors” to championship glory showing that, unlike the NFL QB associated with Bad Newz Kennels, someone could throw a football. Rumour has it that Jas is presently celebrating in Atlanta under the assumed name of “Ron Mexico”.
