Neil McKernan is the 1st Tavern United Offensive player of the week. Last week Neil threw for 10 touchdowns in a replacement role for the Rebels in big wins over the Dead Zone and Blue Bongers. "The Replacement" QB has brought the Rebels over .500 for the first time this season.

Tiago Santos becomes the 1st Tavern United Defensive player of the week. Last week Tiago had 4 sacks to lead the North End Hawkeyes to their first victory of the season, narrowly edging the Real Friends. Both Neil and Tiago are well on their way to match this guy in legendary status:

Each winner will receive a gift certificate valid at any Tavern United location in the city.

Better late than never - in our second week of Tavern United Sponsorship Carlo Bruneau of Division 1 leading Iced Earth was the defensive player of the week with 5 interceptions against the Villains. Carlo has already tied the Division 1 record for interceptions with 11 prior to the half-way mark in the season and has his sights firmly set on the league record of 19 set last year by the Spartans Jordan Gautier.

The offensive player of the week goes to QB Anthony Chase of the Brew Bombers who threw for 5 TD passes in a victory over the Real Friends. Anthony is moving up the TD pass leader board after taking over for the injured Arthur Garand. Both teams playing against Anthony and Carlo were overheard quoting this famous movie line:

Chris Wentz-Chisholm is the third recipient of the Tavern United offensive player of the week award. While Chris only scored 1 point in Blitzkrieg's 23-22 overtime victory over Polk High, the point was the winning convert, in sudden death, and was made spinning backwards for a highlight reel catch. It was overheard at the game that Chris is more of a defensive specialist, but you wouldn't know it by the play of the game reception.

Defensively, Jay Bonner wins the Tavern United award as he had 2 interceptions in Pyramid7.com's first victory of the season over the veteran Winebonger squad. Jay set the tone early by taking back one of his interceptions to the house, then sealing the game late with his second of the game.

Both Chris and Jay played like they were all out of bubblegum.

And don't worry Kelly, Scott should be getting up the Winn City info shortly!

Headline: Player of the week goes on a Rampage!

In our next installment of the player of the week award Gavin Panchuk is the Tavern United Defensive Player of the Week for his two interceptions in the Titans huge upset victory over the Villagers. In another upset victory Shane Smedvick had 24 points in Rampage's victory over the top-seeded Chiefs to take the Tavern United Offensive Player of the Week.

Just like Chad there was no chance for the opponents of Gavin and Shane.

Running a bit behind again, but the next installment of the Tavern United Players of the Week Award goes to Sean Godard of Onslaught and Murray Genik of Necessary Roughness.

We go back to mid-July to find Sean throwing for six touchdowns in Onslaughts victory over the Micronauts. Those six TD's were spread across five different receivers, pushing Sean into third on the TD pass list in Division 7. As always, Onslaught finds themselves in the thick of the playoff race and it wouldn't be surprising to see them in one of our finals on October 2nd.

In the Necessary Roughness/Bandits game, Murray Genik did all he could to slow down the Bandits juggernaut by picking of 4 errant passes from QB Jason Gibbons. Despite the huge performance Necessary Roughness was edged in the last minute due to some Bandit heroics. The four interceptions however earned Murray the Tavern United defensive player of the week award. Sean and Murray have proven their playing ability previously, so there choice as players of the week is not nearly as unexpected as the ending of this commercial!

Player of the week is inappropriately touched!

For the next installment of the Tavern United Players of the Week we are examining the happenings from July 15th to 21st. During that week of play Lendyll Soriano of the Real Friends had three interceptions in an eventual loss to the North End Hawkeyes. While the Real Friends ended up with the loss in the game Lendyll showed his skillz and demonstrated he is definitely an up and comer in the league.

During the same week, Barry Berard of Inappropriate Touching had two TDs (to go along with 2 picks) in their victory over Running Riot. Inappropriate Touching had a rough start to the season, starting 0-6, but has since rebounded with a 5-3 record, in part due to the play of Mr. Berard. For his play, Barry receives the Tavern United offensive player of the week award.

If they keep up their play, Barry and Lendyll might be able to outdo this guy:

Chris Silva is our week 7 Tavern United defensive Player of the Week having caught two interceptions in the Hardesy Wreck Shin victory over the Giants. The win was the first victory for Hardesy during the season. While some bumps have been suffered along the way Hardesy is rounding into form just in time for playoffs.

Mike Brownridge wins the offensive player of the week with his outstanding performance versus L'Attentatore, in the first cross-over between the top two teams in the province in almost three years. While Mike only registered one TD in the game, his multiple acrobatic catches, and timely third down receptions kept the Avenger juggernaut rolling to victory.

Both Chris and Mike will receive a gift certificate valid at any Tavern United location in the city. Ideally the draw is favorable to Chris and Mike, and they can win big money, big money, no whammy...Stop! Aaaaaaaaaaaargh

For the first week in August, Todd Stenzel of the Bondiddy Bengals won the Tavern United player of the week award for his 2 interception, 8 point, and 2 TD pass performance versus South Side Trojans. Todd helped edge the Trojans, and keep Bondiddy on the winning track. After starting the season 2-6, Bondiddy has rolled off 8 straight wins to become the hottest team in the PIT going into the Labour Day break.

For the same week, Ian Milne was the offensive player of the week, throwing for 6 touchdowns in the Rolling 7s upset victory over Onslaught. The Rolling 7s have been a force in indoor for quite some time, but are showing their chops in outdoor for the first time and are acquainting themselves quite well. The Rolling 7s have a knack for stepping up their play come playoffs and teams in Division 7 should be weary come September!

Both Todd and Ian will receive a gift certificate valid at any Tavern United location in the city. Since our last "whammy" seemed to go over so well, here is an updated version!

An honorable mention also goes out to PIT referee Cara Isaak, who's Phoenix team won the MSA cup and will be representing Manitoba in the national soccer championships in Montreal later this year. Congratulate her, or she will give you a gross misconduct penalty!

Cody Buhler of Running Riot is the next Tavern United offensive player of the week. Cody had 13 points and a TD pass (to go along with an interception) in the Running Riot victory over the Anvils. Running Riot is part of a five-team dogfight at the top of Division 8 as teams jockey for position down the stretch in one of the most exciting divisions in touch football.

Ryan Isfeld of TDs and Beer is the Tavern United defensive player of the week for his two interception, two sack performance against U Can't Touch This. Unfortunately TDs and Beer came out of this game with and overtime loss, this team is starting to ramp up its game after a slow start to the season and could surprise come playoffs.

Both Cody and Ryan will receive a gift certificate valid at any Tavern United location in the city. Since my inside joke has been running for a couple of posts now I will finish it off with the dreaded double whammy!

Here again are the pictures of the festivities: http://www.pitfootball.com/albums/417-2011-pit-all-star-game All players received a gift certificate valid at any Tavern United location in the city. Just tell your server that you are part of the PIT Loyalty Points Program, then sign your bill and hand it to Scott or Jon for entry into the draw held at the end of the year. Entries must be in by October 2nd!

In game 1 of the night Ed Garbacz of team Green (representing the Division 8 North End Hawkeyes) and Joey Fryza of team Grey (representing the Division 3 Woodys) were awarded the coveted Tavern United Awards for their play and sportsmanship during the game.

In game 2 of the night Lendyll Soriano of team Green (representing the Division 8 Real Friends) and Teneil Allen of Team Grey (representing the Division 8 Brew Bombers) were also awarded the Tavern United Players of the Week award.
