With the record-breaking indoor season in full swing I haven’t had much of an opportunity to get our summer season information all wrapped up. Here it is, albeit a bit late!

With the large influx of new teams and talent it was inevitable that many PIT records would fall during the summer 2011 season. Not only were many divisional records broken, but three all-time records fell during the season. Congratulations to the following three PIT players who set new standards for individual performance:

POINTS: Evan Panchyshyn, Roughnecks (202)
SACKS: Mike Paluszek, Love Assault (42)
TD PASSES: Jonathon Franklin, The Guild of Calamitous Intent (95)

Evan broke Harlo Larkin’s record of 200 points set just last year when Harlo played for the Division 2 Titans. Most figured Harlo’s record would persist for quite some time, but it took only a year for the record to fall. Evan had a strong finish to the season, pouring in 42 points in the final two games of the season to eclipse the PIT’s all-time scoring record. Even more impressive was the fact that this was Evan’s first full season of touch football!

Mike “Polish” Paluszek had 42 QB sacks in 2011 besting Tony Carvalho’s sack record by one. Mike was able to get the record breaking sack in just his 14th game of the season when he got to Scott McArthur twice in the Love Hitmen’s victory over the Blazers. Good thing because another sack wasn’t forthcoming the remainder of the season! Tony’s mark had stood since the 2009 season, the first outdoor season in the PIT. These two rushers have been going neck and neck for years and they are definitely two of the best at what they do in the province.

The PIT has the most comprehensive statistical records kept in touch football today. Just another reason the PIT is the largest touch football league in Manitoba and continues to be the fastest growing touch football league in Canada. A complete list of divisional records that fell will be posted shortly, but you can get a sneak peak of the record holders in the updated record book here: http://www.pitfootball.com/menu/the-record-book

Growing from 47 to 70 teams in just one summer meant that the PIT expanded its divisions by two, adding in for the first time both an eighth division and an elite division. The end result had both Elite and Division 8 set new benchmarks in each of the statistical categories. Two new records were also set in team captain Maaco All-Star game, which had to be expanded to two separate games, each held under the lights on the artificial turf of East Side Eagles field. Congratulations to each of our statistical leaders. Each of you obviously had great individual seasons that will hopefully carry over into the indoor, the outdoor 2012 season and beyond!

Listed below are each of the new divisional standards set during the Summer 2011 season. The statistical leaders can also be viewed in a more historical context here: http://www.pitfootball.com/menu/the-record-book

Winter 2012 set a record for teams with 106 and divisions with 19. Divisions 17 and 18 were created during the season which meant that new standards were set in both those divisions, while across the other divisions there were some great team and individual performances. Congratulations to each of our statistical leaders. Each of you obviously had great individual seasons that will hopefully carry over into future seasons. Special notice should be given to Manny Atwal who led division 18 in both points and interceptions despite rupturing his achilles in the final game of the season, hopefully you have a speedy recovery! And to JJ Mikolash who not only set two divisional TD pass records but became the first QB in PIT history to lead three different divisions in touchdowns thrown.

While none of the all-time indoor records were broken there were quite a few divisional records that fell. Listed below are each of the new divisional standards set during the Winter 2012 season. Spring 2012 set a record for teams with 48 and divisions with 10. There were quite a few individual and team performances that exceeded even the loftiest PIT standards however only one person was able to break a divisional record, and no one was able to overtake an all time record. Congrats to Braden Bone of Solid Oak for setting a new scoring standard in Division 7!
