Summer Outdoor 2010: A season in review
Due to the record interest in the Fall Indoor season the PIT has fallen a bit behind in writing up the following review of our summer 2010 season. The PIT would like to thank the 48 teams who signed up for summer ball in just our second season. The 48 teams represented over 100% growth from our first season and verified our assumption that the PIT league’s unique brand of full service touch football provides the best game day experience for our teams. The 48 teams contributed to the PIT being the only league to grow during the year, growth that far exceeded expectations. Those 48 teams vied for 7 highly contested championships at either East Side Eagles field, on the best artificial turf surface in the city, or at Nomads field under the lights!
The PIT’s second season was one which had many firsts, including:
1. Guaranteed, consistent field lining for all games. With the exception of Maple Grove and Nomads field which do not allow field lining, all other fields were lined at three week intervals for the entire duration of the season. Lined fields better the game day experience for our players, as well as make it easier on our refs to do their jobs! Check out an example here: http://www.pitfootball.com/albums/324-viscount-alexander-september-18th-2010
2. The introduction of a record 9 new fields. The addition of these fields meant that we were able rotate our fields to keep the fields in the best possible shape (even despite the record rainfall). Why play on fields with gopher holes, that are irregularly shaped, or that are otherwise hazardous? The PIT league hopes to expand their repertoire of fields for the 2011 season. Check out our current stable of fields here: http://www.pitfootball.com/locations
3. The PIT became the only league to run games under the lights at Nomads field, creating a unique playing experience. The PIT solves problems that other leagues can’t, not even the sun could slow the PIT down!
4. The PIT reintroduced the Grand Beach Touch Football Classic. The Grand Beach tournament, held right on the beach, was a great time, with all registration money returned to teams in the form of cash prizes and swag. The success of the tournament will mean it will return next year bigger and better.
5. The PIT introduced the first ever draft league, in which players submitted their names to be drafted onto a team. The result was a highly competitive 4 team division, with some of the best players in Manitoba. We have a few ideas in the works to make this concept even better next year!
6. The PIT held the only all-star game in touch football. The PIT’s first all-star game was held under the lights at Nomads field, wherein each team captain was invited to participate. Team White outlasted Team Black 27-20 in the highly contested game. A return is also in store for the all-star game as the PIT rewards captains for the work they put into running their respective teams.
7. The PIT brought championship games to East Side Eagles field and Nomads field. The PIT will continue its relationship with these fields to enhance your championship game experience. The field at East Side is second to none, and with the open canteen, use of the scoreboard, and announcer’s booth, the championship games were one of a kind. Championship photos can be viewed here: http://www.pitfootball.com/albums/329-championship-day-photos
8. Capital expenditures. The purchase of touch footballs only laser field liner meant the PIT was also the only league to consistently line fields. In addition, the PIT purchased its own lawn tractor, aerator, thatcher, and trailer so that we can maintain our fields at a level no league can compete with. Not to mention, we have the nicest swag and championship trophies (with each player having their name engraved on the trophy “Stanley Cup” style). We reinvest registration back into the game to provide you with the best game day experience.
In just two short years the PIT league has accomplished what no league could. We now provide the best lined quality fields in touch football, have the largest contingent of qualified referees to man those games, and are the only league to demonstrate consistent growth in teams and competition. And of course, our primary commitment: to provide the best game day experience for our players, has been realized! Thanks to all teams who participated in the Summer outdoor season. We hope to see all those teams and more next year as the PIT plans to expand its operations to all teams and all levels of skill.
For the players, by the players

All championship teams now have their names written into the history book: http://www.pitfootball.com/menu/the-history-book.
Congratulations to the Akron Professionals, Titans, Raiders, Love Assault, Gators, and Spartans on their victories. All team members can also look forward to having their names engraved on their respective championship trophies "Stanley Cup" style.

The PIT record book has recently been updated to include all the statistics from the outdoor season. The record book can be viewed off the main menu under the heading "The Game Day Experience" or here: http://www.pitfootball.com/menu/the-record-book
Congratulations to Jordon Gauthier of the Spartans who set a new outdoor record with 19 interceptions on the season. All other records remained safe.
I would also like to bring to light the Division 1 draft leagues biggest bust: Ryan "88 points" Harbour. Harbs led the draft league in scoring (no small feat) however he fell 4912 points below his pre-draft projected scoring level as predicted here: http://www.pitfootball.com/forums/messages/15301 Pretty sure no one in sporting history has fallen further away from their projected statistics for a season. Except maybe this guy (who coincidentally shares a first name).
