Messages for Spring Championship Night

A big thanks to all of the teams who participated in Winnipeg’s first ever spring indoor league. 5 championships were handed out last night. Here is your championship night run down:

DIVISION 1: Blazers 9 defeat Scott McArthur’s Hair Revolution 6
Yes that score is correct! The two defences dug in their trenches and put lines in the sand. In a hotly contested game, where defensive play ruled and tempers flared the Blazers won via a safety and a rouge. Arlen Bolan and Gavin Panchuk waged war throughout the game as the two indoor stars fought to a stalemate. Kudos to referees Brad Kelm and Neil McKernan who kept the game in check. Without them the game could have turned into this: http://

DIVISION 2: Nomads 31 defeat Darkness 18
The Nomads became the first team in the PIT to capture 3 indoor trophies across 3 different divisions, but not without having to come from behind 12-0 early to a Darkness team that came out firing on all cylinders. The Nomads clawed back to tie the game at 12 late in the half. The TSN turning point came when Nomads QB Arlen Bolan evaded a double rush on the last play of the first half and sent up a Hail Mary that was answered when Chris Krupa made an amazing toe-tapping catch at the back of the end zone in traffic. The run and catch sent the Nomads to an 18-12 halftime lead and their 3rd straight championship.

DIVISION 3: The Duke Express 45 defeat Dr. Rockso’s Three Ring Circus 22
The Duke Express went wire to wire capping off their undefeated season in grand style with a victory over Dr. Rockso’s. The only undefeated team in the Spring was QB’ed by Aaron Giesbrecht (4 TD passes in the championship game) who lead both the regular season and the playoffs in TD passes. In the final, two players from the Express (Jason Huclack and Riley Wiggett) had MVP-calibre games with 3 TDs and an INT each. Time for the Express to take the train to a higher division!

DIVISION 4: Snipers 20 defeat Transporters 18
Championship bookends for the Snipers who won the first ever Division 6 championship in the PIT and now have their names engraved on the most recent Division 4 trophy. The precision passing of Roger Pachet (3 TD passes) and the clutch catches of Colin Cheys (3 TDs and 2 INT) sealed the upstart Transporters fate who previously had knocked off the top-seeded Decepticons. Earlier in the night the Snipers avenged their regular season loss to the Dogg Pound on the back of Jade Karsin’s two TD receptions.

DIVISION 5: Benders 19 defeat 2 and Out 12
The Benders take their second straight championship in an upset defeating 2 and Out in a back and forth affair. The Benders were led by Jamie Pittumber’s hat trick of a TD pass, interception, and running TD. The 4th place Benders knocked off the top seeded Razerbacks in the semi-final, then the second seeded 2 and Out to win the championship. Any given day in the PIT!

Semi-final scores:
Blazers 32 (Div 1 2nd Seed) defeat No D 13 (Div 1 3rd Seed)
Darkness (Div 2 2nd Seed) defeat Barracudas 21 (Div 2 3rd Seed)
The Duke Express 53 (Div 3 1st Seed) defeat the Raiders 1 (Div 3 4th Seed)
Dr. Rockso’s Three Ring Circus 35 (Div 3 3rd Seed) defeat Mustard Tigers 18 (Div 3 2nd Seed)
Transporters 14 (Div 4 4th Seed) defeat Decepticons 12 (Div 4 1st Seed)
Snipers 31 (Div 4 3rd Seed) defeat Dogg Pound 7 (Div 4 2nd Seed)
2 and out 12 (Div 5 2nd Seed) defeat Golden Boys 11 (Div 5 3rd Seed)
Benders 56 (Div 5 4th Seed) defeat Razorbacks 7 (Div 5 1st Seed)
