Messages for Tony Romas Warrior of the Week Winter 2010 Season

The Tony Roma's/Brad Kelm sponsored Warrior of the Week (WOW) award is back for the Winter season. This award (a $15 gift certificate) goes to a randomly selected MVP from Saturday night games in the PIT and can be redeemed at any Tony Roma's location in the city.

The first WOW award of 2010 goes to Chris Taran of AKA. Chris scored AKAs only TD in their inaugural game in the PIT Saturday night. AKA put up a valiant effort in a back and forth game against the veteren Darkness team. A few beers from Tony Romas should help ease the pain of the loss! Gift certificates will be attached to the game cards of the next game involving the WOW.

Since it was the first WOW award in our record breaking season the PIT crew decided to hire some mascots to celebrate. Unfortunately we found out that just because we have the priviledge of running the best football league in the city our talents don't extend to other venues. http://

For the players, by the players

Warrior of the Week has been kinged.

Simon Blaszczak of the Kings put on an unbelievable performance saturday night to earn the WOW honours. Simon had 2 TDs and a sack, but the stats don't relay the whole story. If you ever wanted to see someone put on a catching clinic that was the night. One-handers, catches in traffic, diving catches, you name it. In fact the highlight reel was so great it put these catches to shame: http://

Referees, players, and people in the stands started to gather on field 2 to watch the Aaron Giesbrecht to Simon Blaszczak aerial display. Honourable mention to Jason Huclack who had the best INT in PIT history on Saturday as well as Aaron Giesbrecht who picked apart the normally stout Guild of Calamitous Intent defense. The Kings will be a force to reckon with in the top division of the PIT for years to come. Not only are they some of the top players in the province, but class acts as well. Have a couple of cold ones on the PIT and Tony Romas.

Nate Friesen, Manitoba Bison starting QB in 2009, and QB of the elite division team of the same name is the Tony Romas Warrior of the Week. Nate and his QB counterpart Aaron Giesbrecht of the Kings put on an aerial display in a game for the ages on Saturday night. The Bisons topped the Kings 27-26 in a back and forth affair that was just as physical as it was skilled. The Kings may be 0-2 to start the season but they have made it known they are a force to be reckoned with. Nate however gets the Warrior of the Week for his precision passing, hitting Brad Black with a lazer from 40 yards out in huge traffic for the game winner.

Fans gathered to watch former Blue Bomber WR Blair Atkinson battle current CFL linebackers Shawn Gallant (Blue Bombers) and Cory Huclack (Alouettes) in a game featuring precision routes, great defense, and contested plays. If you could get up from a hit then there was no penalty called! Here is just a sampling of some of the liberties the defense took in this game: http://

Congrats from the PIT Crew

Onslaught of TDs brings Tony Romas Award.

Sean Godard of Onslaught earned the Tony Roma's Warrior of the Week. Sean threw for five TDs and had an INT in a back and forth battle with the Brewers. Onslaught built a huge lead, but the Brewers made a valiant comeback pulling within 5 with 3 minutes left, however, Sean milked the clock then ended the game with a TD pass to Justin Noble who skyed over Andrew Westwood of the Brewers for the clincher. Kinda of reminded me of this drive: http:// (except Onslaught spoke less Japanese).

Division 6 looks to be a dogfight for the rest of the season, with all 6 teams within four points of either first place or the cellar. Congrats to Onslaught for the big victory and to Sean Godard for being the Warrior of the Week.

Kyle Ashuk road the 'Highway to the Dangerzone' and has picked up the Tony Roma's Warrior of the Week award.

Kyle had a TD and a pick to go along with 3 TD passes as Air Patrol got bye AKA on the weekend. Air Patrol picked up their first ever win in the PIT, due in part to their stellar defensive effort and their pregame ritual of re-enacting their favorite scene from Top Gun. http://

Congrats from the PIT Crew

Bengal takes a bite out of the Warrior of the Week Award

A special Thursday night edition of the Warrior of the Week award went out last night to Dan Purvis-Collins of the Bondiddy Bengals for his five interception performance versus Awesome-O. The game was a defensive stalemate (final was 12-7), with one player stating that the game was similar to what would happen if the Baltimore Ravens of 2001 could clone themselves and play each other. In the end the Bondiddy Bengals prevailed and continue to outplay their sister franchise http://

Congrats to Dan from the PIT for his huge game (and for not being Mike Brown - warning the above video clip may be the best 4 minutes of time you waste at work today)

Dave Robson of the Untouchables/HFC/Moe and Lesters is February's last Warrior of the Week. As the playoffs approach the Untouchables are hitting their stride after a rough start. On the weekend they got their first win of the season by knocking off the elite division Bisons in a crossover game. Dave Robson could not be contained scoring 3 TDs and adding a convert for 20 points on the night. Dave might not be the most physically imposing player in the PIT but add a good dose of heart and speed to burn you get a player like who is remarkably similar to this guy http://

To show that he has some other skillz, Dave also QB'd HFC to victory throwing 4 TD passes, while throwing for a TD, scoring 7 points and collecting 4 ints for Moe and Lesters. A busy weekend of stats collecting for Mr. Robson.

Congrats Dave from the PIT Crew

Arlen Bolan wins the Tony Roma's Warrior of the Week for the first week in March. Arlen had three games on Saturday and was named player of the game in all 3, amassing 8 TDs, 6 Ints and a boat load of converts along the way. Arlen also ended Damian "turnstile" Bialkowski's Aztecs career after throwing down an array of single, double, and triple moves that left Damian spinning like a top. But Arlen's defense is what really told the story of the night, here is just four of his interceptions on the evening. http://

Lionel Gautier of the Hyenas is the Warrior of Week for the past weekend. For his game play Lionel will receive a gift certificate to Tony Romas.

Lionel hung tough with 2 TD passes in a defensive stalemate against the Terminators. Lionel controlled the clock and the pace of the majority of the game keeping the Terminators on their heels, but the Terminators were able to play "bend but don't break" defense coming up big in goal line situations. Lionel currently leads division 2 in TD passes as the Hyenas have really hit their stride in the Winter. Raise a beer to Lionel! http://

Jarid Burgess of Hungover is the Warrior of the Week for the first playoff weekend for the Winter season. Jarid had two interceptions for Hungover against Solid Oak, in a game that was a lot closer than the score would indicate. Taking a cue from the team name, here is one of the reasons everyone should drink in moderation! http:// Jarid will receive a gift certificate from Tony Romas for his efforts.

Congrats from the PIT!
