Messages for Winter season begins...

The highly anticipated Winter session kicked off last night with twenty four of the PIT's teams partaking in Friday night's action. Night one did not disapoint, with four of the games being decided by one score or less!

Field three had the Panthers lead by PIT star Jason Gibbons quarterbacking to an overtime victory over the first year team of the Charleswood champs. Scott Smoke threw for three touchdowns, while Jeremy Lomonaco cashed in two TD's, but in the end the the Champs fell one point short of the Gibbons, Manling(4 sacks), Gieni(two td's), and Estrada(1 td) lead Panthers. Could there be a playoff grudge match in the future? Time will tell!

Not to be outdone, field two had a wild first game of the Winter session too. The Mighty Schmucks and dazed and confused needed overtime to decide a victor. Dazed and confused started strong taking the early lead from the arm of Justin Sabourin and receiving skills of Jonathan Dohery. The Schmucks then countered in the first quarter scoring their own td to David Dyck via air mail from Len Koberstein. Nearly an hour later, two more td's, and six picks, the game was deadlocked. The first two convert attempts fell short for both teams, so in a bold move by the Schmucks, they decided to take fate into their own hands. Coach Thiesson called in the 2 point play from the stands. I think I overheard him say "get the big man isolated and throw the jump ball". They did! Six foot three Steve Rogalsky used his vert, and caught the ball where no other could reach it on the field. Dazed had one more chance to extend overtime, but a solid D scheme prevented that from happening.

Congrats to all teams that partook last night. Win or lose, we play this for the love of the game. Jon and myself thank you all for making the PIT a pleasure to be a part of.

Saturday kept going where Friday left off. Couple of great barn-burners highlighted by the Mexicans/Bondiddy Bengals game. The Mexicans took a big lead early with Bondiddy storming back at the end. The last play Hail Mary went incomplete and the Mexicans escaped with a 41-33 win. In a very similar game, the Barracudas spotted One Man Wolfpack a couple of TDs before flexing their offensive skills, however just like the Bengals the Barracudas couldn't overcome the hole they dug and lost by a single point 25-24.

Some great new teams to the league: The Trailer Park Boys, Unforgiven, tba, Family Guys and El Toros all made successful debuts in the PIT. Thanks to all teams and refs who made our Winter kick-off run perfectly.
